BIG FISH PR CEO, David Richard, shares his insights on #news reporting, fact-checking, and misinformation with The Boston Herald's coverage of Facebook's admission of news censorship.
I recently shared my thoughts on #news reporting and fact-checking with The Boston Herald in light of Facebook's recent news censorship admission. "News consumers make the mistake of believing Facebook and X, formerly Twitter, are legitimate news sources. It’s all a tangled web that shows social media is not the most reliable venue for legitimate news." #Misinformation tied to extremism and tribalism + the sheer volume of content and amplification, makes it impossible for social media platforms to fact-check and edit content with anywhere near the rigor that top news agencies do.

Our CEO, David Richard, recently was in-studio at Boston's local ABC News and NBC Newsrooms providing commentary on the #KarenRead trial, #PR, and #storytelling. His advice to news media: audiences that "tuned in" are looking for their next true crime fix, give it to them.
The Karen Read trial has officially come to a close. I spent a bit of time in the local Boston ABC News and NBC News studios providing commentary on #storytelling and why we, as a society, become obsessed with some news stories and not others. My high-level assessment: True crime + reality TV + conspiracy theories galore with social media amplification of all three ingredients, made the story reach critical mass and irresistible to audiences. The mass audience that "tuned in" is now in a post-trial letdown phase, not too dissimilar from the finale of Jim Carrey's Truman Show. The news media would be smart to tap into this moment by reporting and amplifying the next big, juicy did-they-do-it? story. #KarenRead #PR

BIG FISH PR client Bevi featured in Fortune. Bevi’s product usage data tells the story of how office culture has changed since the pandemic.
7-to-7 is the new 9-to-5. The water cooler company Bevi examined usage of its machines—according to the company, 25% of Fortune 500 companies have at least one Bevi in their office—to get an idea of how much time workers are spending in the office. The Boston-based company compared usage of water dispenser machines in offices today with 2019 when most workers were based at their desk, five days a week—and it found that workers’ days in the office are fewer but longer than pre-pandemic. “A greater portion of in-office hours now take place before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. than before the pandemic,” the company noted in its latest return-to-office report. BIG FISH PR client Ring announced its all-new Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam! The new device arrives in style with three new colors, for 360 degree peace of mind that seamlessly blends in with any decor. Check out what the press has to say: The Verge The colors do add a bit of style, and while no one has designed a really good-looking indoor camera, it’s nice to see some attention being paid to how these actually look inside a home. ZDNET An indoor pan/tilt camera is perfect for nighttime security, but it's also handy whenever I need to check on my kids or call my dog inside. The new Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam has features like Live View, Two-Way Talk, and real-time motion alerts. TechRadar This new model stands out in multiple ways. For starters, it has a wider range of motion.... Second, the Pan-Tilt camera has a privacy shutter. Flipping it closed automatically disables video recording and audio connectivity.

Today, #3Dprinting hit record speeds with our client Formlabs announcing their fastest #3Dprinter yet: Form 4. Formlabs has built on a decade of experience to deliver its best SLA printer, with reliability and a new level of speed that will transform how products are made. Congrats to the entire Formlabs team on this impressive achievement! Check out what the press has to say: Fast Company: “This speed and quality combo pushes us close to the holy grail of 3D printing.” Entrepreneur Magazine: “The fast production time means that the printer could more easily expand the current use of 3D printing, taking the technology from prototypes and small parts to mass-produced sellable goods like toys and kitchenware that consumers could buy in stores one day.” TechCrunch: “Formlabs says it was able to print 11 dental models in nine minutes and 130 dental crowns in just 20 minutes.” The Verge: “Formlabs claims it’s managed to build a printer to do it at a higher quality than ever before.” Engadget: “This emphasis on speed, efficiency and lower cost should help bolster the sales pitch that these units are ready for bigger and better manufacturing jobs.”
