Whatever It Takes To Build Great Futures

About us

Step inside any of the 15 Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama (501c3), and you will find something magical: young people learning and connecting with caring adults. You will see children completing their homework; teens researching colleges or planning a community service project; club members running, jumping, laughing, having fun and improving their health at the same time. Since 1938, Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama (BGCNAL) has been in the forefront of youth development by helping to strengthen North Alabama communities. We are dedicated to ensuring that all youth have greater access to quality programs and services that will fulfill our mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. In a world that has never seemed more threatening and devoid of promise and purpose for a disproportionate number of America’s children, BGCNAL provides a tangible measure of hope. The Club offers young people what they need and want most: • Adults who respect and listen to them • A safe environment where they grow and build healthy relationships • A fun place to go with interesting and constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits All BGCNAL programs are based on a youth development strategy which underlies all Boys & Girls Club programs and fosters senses of belonging, competence, usefulness, and influence, building self-confidence and self-esteem. BGCNAL is part of a nationwide organization (Boys & Girls Clubs of America) that is working to provide youth with the people, pathways, and programs that focus on 5 key areas. • Character and Leadership Development • Education and Career Development • Health and Life Skills • The Arts • Sports, Fitness and Recreation These programs provide measurable outcomes focus: 1. Academic Success 2. Character and Citizenship 3. Healthy Lifestyles

  • "When I was an elementary school kid, I struggled with learning math. Fortunately, my parents sent me to a local college where I had a math tutor. My biggest memory? Using the blackboard (yes, I’m dating myself here!) and working through problems step-by-step made all the difference. That one-on-one support and timeless teaching method helped the concepts ‘click’ in a way I couldn’t get on my own." - Angela O'Neil - BGCNAL STEM Director Angela's story highlights why we’re so intentional about creating a supportive environment at the Clubs. Our Clubs aren’t just about learning facts and figures—they’re about connecting, engaging, and learning together. ✨ When young minds get to work through challenges in a place where mentors and peers are always ready to step in, they’re building more than academic skills—they’re building relationships that help them see what’s possible. Whether it’s math problems, science experiments, or life lessons, we know the best learning doesn’t happen alone. When our kids lean on each other, collaborate, and celebrate small wins as a team, they’re not just students—they’re part of a community that believes in them every step of the way. 💙 🏅

  • At the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama - 3rd Street Unit, teamwork and learning go hand in hand! 🧩 Puzzles like this fun USA map are more than just a game—they help our kids develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and patience. By working together, they also strengthen communication and teamwork, which are essential for success both in and out of the classroom. Plus, it's a fun way to explore geography! 🌍

  • We're excited to share the results of our 2024 LevelUp Literacy program so far! EasyCBM Pre/Post Assessment Results: • 8 Clubs with data results • 174 Members in grades K-5 received reading intervention • 87 out of 112 (78%) showed growth/improvement in the assessment Research consistently shows that early literacy intervention programs improve academic performance, boost confidence, and improve future educational outcomes. Programs like ours are essential in closing the literacy gap and providing every child with the tools to succeed in school and beyond. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to make these achievements possible, providing one-on-one sessions that cater to each child's unique needs. Join us as we celebrate these milestones and continue to foster environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Your support makes all the difference—thank you for helping us light up young minds!

  • At Boys & Girls Clubs, our LevelUp Literacy program helps young readers develop critical skills and empowers older members to take on leadership roles by teaching younger kids. This peer-to-peer dynamic creates a powerful impact, boosting the confidence and responsibility of our tween mentors while fostering a fun and engaging learning environment for younger children. As both groups grow together, the older kids develop empathy and leadership skills, while the younger ones feel more connected and excited about reading. It’s a win-win that shows the transformative power of learning as a community. 📚✨ #GreatFutures
