Our team is the heart of our mission to promote and protect pollinator health, and we wouldn't be where we are today without them. Meet Annie Christie, our Boston Apiary Manager and SmartHive Beekeeper! ⬇️ 1️⃣ How long have you been beekeeping? “I have been beekeeping for 3 years. I started my beekeeping career through the Northeastern University co-op program! Currently, I am working on continuing my beekeeping training through the Cornell University Master Beekeeping Certification program.” 2️⃣ What’s your favorite part about beekeeping? “My favorite part is in the individuality of each colony. While I may have a good idea of what to expect when I start an inspection, I find that there is always something new to see or learn from. Honey bees have taught me about teamwork, communication, and conservation and I continue to learn and build on skills each day. Honey bees are the ultimate life gurus.” 3️⃣ What’s one thing you wish people knew about bees? “One thing that I wish people understood about bees is how an individual honey bee will prioritize selflessness, community, and collective effort over personal gain. Despite having dozens of thousands of sisters, each bee has a specific role and set of responsibilities that are vital to colony success. In some ways, we still have a lot to learn from honey bees.” Thank you for all that you do for our team, our partners, and our bees, Annie! #Beekeepers #TeamAppreciation #UrbanBeekeeping #HoneyBees

Happy National Honey Bee Day! 🐝Today, we're celebrating these remarkable creatures and their crucial role in our ecosystem. Did you know that honey bees are more than just honey producers? They're nature's own environmental sensors. Honey bees have been buzzing around North America for over 400 years, becoming an integral part of our ecosystems. These adaptive, industrious insects provide essential pollination services and contribute significantly to our economy. What makes honey bees truly special is their role as indicator species. Like sophisticated weather stations collecting data about our atmosphere, honey bees gather and reflect information about their environment. Their health, behavior, and even their honey provide valuable insights into the state of our ecosystems. At The Best Bees Company, we're taking this a step further with our groundbreaking HoneyDNA technology. By analyzing honey, we can uncover a wealth of information about local plant biodiversity, detect the presence of invasive species, and assess overall ecosystem health. It's like reading nature's own journal! By understanding and protecting honey bees, we're not just supporting one species – we're championing all pollinators and the biodiversity they sustain. It's a sweet deal for the environment! How are you celebrating National Honey Bee Day? #NationalHoneyBeeDay #Biodiversity #Sustainability #EnvironmentalMonitoring #HoneyDNA

Our world's greatest challenges require innovative solutions, and we're on a mission to be at the forefront of sustainability's intersection with data. 🌳 The Urban Bee Lab team has recently secured a grant from the Essex County Beekeeper's Association to use honeyDNA to identify the tree species our bees are foraging on! By analyzing the genetic makeup of pollen collected by bees at 72 research hives in Suffolk and Essex counties, we're gaining unprecedented insights into urban bee diets and the health of our city's green spaces. Free online access to high-quality data is essential to creating more sustainable neighborhoods for pollinators, plants, and people. This data will inform more effective urban planning and conservation efforts, ensuring a thriving future for our pollinators. Here's a sneak peek at the HoneyDNA insights! Stay tuned for the published results. #Biodiversity #UrbanPlanning #SustainabilityGoals #ScientificResearch
