Next up in our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, we’re proud to spotlight Ridiam from our New Jersey 299 location and Josh from our California team. Both bring stories of cultural pride, and success to Bergen Logistics 🎉 Born in Holguin, Cuba, Ridiam Estrada’s journey has been shaped by hard work and determination. At a young age, her parents made the difficult decision to send her to a vocational school far from home, knowing it would lead to better opportunities. Despite the challenges, she thrived and went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from one of Cuba’s top universities. Her career took her from Cuba to the Dominican Republic, where she worked as a chemical engineer before fulfilling her dream of moving to the United States. Starting over wasn’t easy. “I didn’t know any English,” she says. “I don’t know how, I just was able to pick it up from the people around me.” Her dedication paid off, and today she’s our Inbound Manager at our New Jersey 299 facility, after starting as a packer. Ridiam celebrates this month alongside the Hispanic community through food and traditions. “We are citizens of this country, but my roots are there,” she proudly shares. “Anytime we cook things, we celebrate.” Joshua Galindo has been a part of Bergen for over 8 years and carries with him a rich cultural heritage from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Germany, though he was born in California. His family traditions, like making Guatemalan tamales during the holidays and traveling to El Salvador, help him stay connected to his roots. When asked who inspires him, Josh spoke about his grandmother, who played a big role in raising him and his siblings. “She gave us a lot of freedom and always empowered us,” he shared. “If it wasn’t for her coming here, my family wouldn’t be where we are today.” His message for Hispanic Heritage Month? “Always remain positive and try your best– eventually, it’ll show. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! This month, we're excited to showcase the stories of our employees from all across the country. First up are Milagros from our New Jersey 5903 location and Carlos from our Georgia location. We're proud to honor their stories and celebrate what they bring to our Bergen Logistics family. Milagros Mogollon, originally from Peru, has been living in the United States for 11 years. Her career at Bergen Logistics has only grown, starting as a general manager assistant, to her current role as part of our finance team being a billing specialist. Reflecting on her experiences, Milagros shares that many people, like herself, seek opportunities abroad to improve their lives and step out of their comfort zones. Her greatest inspiration is her mother, who worked three jobs to support her family and has always stayed positive, no matter the challenges. Milagros celebrates her Peruvian roots through food and language, proudly stating “Peruvian food is the best! Sorry, not sorry!” She loves using Peruvian slang and feels a special connection with other Latin people through their shared language. Her message for Hispanic Heritage Month is simple yet powerful, “Just be you. Be honest and share your knowledge.” Born in Ecuador and raised in Queens, New York, Carlos Jurado carries his cultural heritage with him in all aspects of his life. “My culture and heritage are 100% everywhere–at home and work. Food, music– it’s in everything,” he says. He takes pride in sharing his heritage with his two daughters, ensuring that the traditions his father instilled in him continue to be passed down to future generations. Carlos draws inspiration from his family and the broader Hispanic community. He celebrates the progress made by the community, noticing how many have established themselves in the States with better jobs and homes. “Our generations are now working together for big corporations and helping this country while maintaining our traditions,” he reflects. His message for Hispanic Heritage Month is one of guidance for the newer members of of the Hispanic community in the United States, “always try to do good, focus on the future and be a good example.” #HispanicHeritageMonth #BergenCares
