About us
The mission of the Bellevue Schools Foundation is to promote and fund the best possible learning opportunities for ALL Students in Bellevue’s public schools. For over 40 years, the Bellevue Schools Foundation has driven resources to Bellevue’s public schools, with over $36 million contributed to date. Students enrolled in the Bellevue School District are incredibly diverse: 100 languages are spoken; 125 countries of birth are represented; and 40% of students speak a first language other than English. Bellevue Schools Foundation is particularly noteworthy for its commitment to teacher development, and 45% of Bellevue School District teachers have achieved NBCT certification through the National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards, an achievement that is proven to directly correlate with increased learning potential in students. Bellevue Schools Foundation supports the dismantling of structural and systemic inequities that perpetuate both naive and intentional discrimination against persons of all races, ethnicities, religions, gender orientations, disabilities, and economic statuses. The Foundation believes that education is the basis for opportunity, growth, and success in life. The Foundation is uniquely positioned to be a catalytic agent of positive change and advancement in Bellevue’s public schools, and leverage private support to provide the high-quality education the community deserves.

We are honored to administer and support the Debra Muren Scholarship through Bellevue Schools Foundation. This three-year scholarship, providing $1,000 each year, celebrates a student from the Health Careers Program. Debra Jean Muren was a dedicated direct care nurse and compassionate caregiver, as well as a beloved Bellevue Parent. After her passing from early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2010, her family established this scholarship in her memory to support Bellevue students pursuing nursing degrees. This year, we proudly present the award to Ashley Sung, a Newport High School graduate from the Class of 2024. Ashley is certified in Art Therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, and Music Therapy. She also holds Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid and Basic Life Support Certifications. With over 1,000 volunteer hours, she earned the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award. This fall, Ashley will enter the Nursing Program at the University of Washington and join the Geriatric Interest Group in honor of her halmoni (grandmother). Congratulations, Ashley! #bellevueschoolsfoundation #bellevueschooldistrict405

We're excited to celebrate this year's Nan Campbell Scholarship recipients! These outstanding students have been awarded the scholarship, and we can't wait to see all they achieve. The Nan Campbell Scholarship, administered by the Bellevue Schools Foundation, provides $1,000 annually to Sammamish High School students who exemplify the leadership and compassion of Nan Campbell, Bellevue’s first female mayor. Her dedication to human services and community activism continues to inspire. This award is made possible through the generosity of Suzy Mygatt Wakefield's endowment. Every year, Bellevue Schools Foundation is proud to help administer a handful of awards and scholarships to some outstanding Bellevue School District high school seniors. Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting our award winners. The Brandon West Memorial Scholarship. Brandon Davis West was a student athlete at Bellevue High School who was known for his commitment to friendship, life, citizenship and sports. To qualify for this award, students need to demonstrate excellence in their academic achievements and extracurricular accomplishments and service to the community. Meleana is a graduate of Bellevue High School and a competitive athlete in many sports including an outrigger canoe paddler, volleyball player, and a track and field javelin athlete. She will continue her commitment to sports at Edmonds College in the fall. Michael is a graduate of Bellevue High School and a master of water sports (water polo, swim team and certified lifeguard). Every year Bellevue Schools Foundation is proud to help administer a handful of awards and scholarships to some amazing graduating Bellevue School District students. Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting the recipients of these awards. The Carla Vendeland Community Service Award Meet Carla Vendeland. She was a Newport High School parent who worked endlessly to fight world hunger. As part of her effort to encourage students to volunteer, she created the PTSA Knight Valor Program in 1989, recognizing Newport students who make a difference in their community through their volunteer efforts. This year, the award and scholarship went to Newport High School students Ava Chen and Alvin Sung. Congratulations Ava and Alvin! Your dedication and support of our community is admired and celebrated. Great work! We can't wait to see the great things that you will embark upon in the years to come. Ava is an active member of her community serving as class officer and ASB Vice President, Varsity captain of the Newport Gymnastics and Girl's Golf team. In addition, she served as Co-President of Bellevue LifeSpring Youth Council. Alan spends a lot of time volunteering at a tutoring center, where he focuses on teaching Math and English to students with learning disabilities. Additionally, Alan volunteers to support transfer students at Newport, collaborating with staff to host college fairs and other events to help these students smoothly adapt to their new community.
