Partner Alana Kalantzakis Ackels recently served as a guest lecturer in the fashion Law class at SMU Dedman School of Law. She presented on labor and employment law for retailers, with a particular focus on noncompete agreements and union activity. Ryan Summer Parley, Assistant General Counsel for JCPenney and Southern Methodist University adjunct professor, invited Alana to join her for the class. Ryan is a trusted legal partner in the retail fashion space, specializing in commercial transactions, marketing and e-commerce. During her presentation, Alana shared valuable insights with the future attorneys and guided them through potential employment law issues they may encounter in their careers. #WomenInLaw #LaborandEmploymentLaw

Bell Nunnally was thrilled to join the Annual AlixPartners Chili Challenge once again! This year, we turned up the flavor and fun with a Friendsgiving twist, inspired by our smoked turkey chili. Bell Nunnally was honored to host its annual Ethics CLE program at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. The program, “Slippery Slope During the Holocaust,” used the Holocaust as a historical framework to examine the role of choice in the legal profession. Participants reflected on the impact of legal professionals in Nazi Germany and the ethical responsibilities we hold in society today.   We were privileged to have Dr. Charlotte Decoster, Senior Director of Education at the Museum, as our speaker. With her extensive expertise in Holocaust history, Dr. Decoster led an insightful discussion on the intersection of law, history and ethics. Partner Dania Duncan Moreno was a featured panelist at the “Real Talk: A Seat at the Table with the Women Making a Big Impact in Small/Mid-sized Firms” event this month hosted at the Karcher Auditorium on the Southern Methodist University campus. This event provided an incredible opportunity for 2L and 3L women SMU Dedman School of Law students to connect with and learn from inspiring women lawyers in the DFW area.   Dania shared her invaluable insights during the round table discussions, guiding future leaders through honest and uplifting conversations about the realities of being a woman lawyer. Bell Nunnally Partner Brent Turman, Senior Associate T.J. Hales and Associate Meredith Palmer successfully fended off a request for preliminary injunction in a matter related to the music of a prominent deceased musical artist. The defendants sought to block the Estate from releasing the artist’s music, claiming involvement in its production. However, the court found the evidence insufficient, allowing the Estate to release an album, which has since climbed the Apple Music charts. This case underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property in the entertainment industry.
