About us

Beholder is an AI-based Remote Sensing Platform for critical minerals and energy resources exploration. It utilizes machine learning to process data from satellites to make accurate predictions on mineral deposits at the same time thanks to remote sensing technology that does not require any harm to nature and can be scaled with no limits. Beholder’s tech stack allows it to map minerals which are critical to green energy transition , rare earth elements, conventional and non conventional energy resources, verify geological prospects and automate sustainability reporting. It also assists with green mining practices through providing data on environmental impact and insights.

    Extraction industry risks due to miscalculations: The State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine (NADPU) has highlighted a critical issue affecting the economic interests of the state and subsoil users, potentially leading to excessive financial costs and impacting investments and financial stability in the sector. According to the methodology for determining the initial auction price for the right to use subsoil, the State Geological Service of Ukraine quarterly approves and publishes prices for extracted mineral raw materials. These prices, based on data from the State Tax Service and the State Commission on Mineral Reserves, directly influence the auction sale price for subsoil use rights. Incorrect pricing data reported by some mining companies, particularly for drinking water and sand, have skewed average price calculations. For instance, the reported unit price of sand is significantly inflated at 4,427.3 UAH per ton, affecting the financial viability of businesses and potentially leading to increased costs for construction materials, crucial for Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts during wartime. In response, the National Association of Extractive Industries of Ukraine and key industry players are urging the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources to intervene. They request a temporary suspension of the publication of these prices to allow companies to submit corrected tax declarations. Additionally, they call for an expedited review and approval of amendments to the methodology for determining auction prices.     The Role of Critical Minerals in Green Energy The market for critical minerals, essential for the green energy transition, is experiencing significant growth. For example, the lithium market is projected to grow from $3.64 billion in 2020 to $8.24 billion by 2027, driven largely by the electric vehicle (EV) industry. Similarly, the cobalt market is expected to reach $13.6 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.3% from 2021 to 2028, due to its critical role in lithium-ion batteries. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that the world will need to increase its production of critical minerals by six times by 2040 to meet the demands of sustainable energy. According to the World Bank, the production of minerals like graphite, lithium, and cobalt could rise by nearly 500% by 2050 to support clean energy technologies. This underscores the need for significant investments in mining and recycling infrastructure. To reduce the risks associated with concentrated production in a few countries, nations are diversifying their supply chains. This includes investing in mining projects in different regions and forming strategic partnerships. Japan, for instance, is investing in mining projects in Australia and Canada to secure a stable supply of rare earth elements. The Quad Critical and Emerging Technology Working Group, comprising the United States, India, Japan, and Australia, exemplifies international cooperation to secure supply chains and foster innovation in green technologies. Technological innovations are also crucial. New methods, such as direct lithium extraction (DLE) from brine and enhanced leaching techniques for rare earth elements, aim to reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency. However, sourcing these minerals responsibly remains a challenge. Traditional mining and exploration methods can be invasive and harmful to the environment. This is where Beholder steps in to revolutionize the exploration process.
