Yesterday I had the delights of hosting some great members of the RANT Community at the luxurious Chesterfield Hotel in Mayfair for an evening of hot debate over the value of cyber insurance and the benefits of utilising the proactive cyber services being offered by those insurance providers, such as Beazley Security, who were able to provide trusted and robust services that were tailored to the needs of the community and informed by the vast database of threats evidence that the big insurance firms were seeing. The conversation covered how there was a genuine lack of trust in the intention of many insurance policies and whether cyber insurance actually provided the intended value. We all took an action away to go and check our cyber insurance coverage to see where it applied, what exclusions it had, and whether it actually gave us the peace of mind we needed. We saw how it was possible to almost offset the concerns of an internal audit with expert support from insurance providers offering proactive services and whether it was possible to get support with the quantification of risks from the insurance providers as they were offering 'valuable risk intelligence' and expertise in assessing such material. Questions were asked whether those organisations having a more mature approach to cyber security would have a more trusted and constructive relationship with insurance providers offering a suite of additional tools and proactive services and that it was perhaps time we really revisited our perceptions of cyber insurance. With thanks to wonderful Raf Sanchez and Mandeep Gosal, CISM from Beazley Security for not only sponsoring the evening but also for engaging in educating us all in the capabilities and benefits offered by insurance providers such as Beazley given the number of incidents they were aware of and seeing whilst monitoring the threat landscape.
