Corporate/M&A Deal Lawyer | AI & Contract Drafting Enthusiast | Air Force Veteran | Bridging Law Firm & In-House Insights | Serving Startups to Fortune 500s

Happy Tuesday, everyone! "I truly believe that practicing mindfulness and meditation has made me a much better lawyer. Negotiating can be challenging, and it's easy to get caught up in reactivity. But by recognizing when I'm feeling annoyed or dysregulated, I can consciously bring myself back to a calm state. This allows me to keep my client calm, think clearly, and come up with solutions – because that's what we do: we solve problems for our clients." I am grateful to have shared my journey and insights on practicing law with kindness and excellence on the Conscious Corner podcast. My mindfulness practice isn't just a personal habit; it's my superpower in negotiation and problem-solving. I strive to make a difference in every deal by leading with heart and mind. Thank you, Courtney Schulnick, for the opportunity and for creating a thoughtful space to discuss the intersection of mindfulness and law. Your dedication to promoting mindfulness is genuinely inspiring! Please catch the upcoming episode and discover how mindfulness can transform your professional life, too. Have a great day, and remember - kindness matters! #KindDealLawyer #CorporateCounsel #MindfulnessInLaw #ProblemSolving #Leadership #Podcast #MergersAndAcquisitions #LawyerWithAHeart #BeKindAndThrive #DiscoverBetterLaw Barton LLP

🌟 New Episode Alert: Conscious Corner with Annie + Courtney 🌟 In our latest podcast episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Lani E. Medina, a seasoned corporate transactional attorney, Air Force veteran, and proud Bronx native. Lani's journey from the disciplined environment of the United States Air Force to top-tier law firms is nothing short of inspiring. She now serves as a Senior Associate at Barton LLP, where she focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and minority investments, alongside managing her solo law practice, Lani Law PLLC. But what truly sets Lani apart is how she integrates mindfulness into her practice. As she shares in the episode: "I truly believe that practicing mindfulness and meditation has made me a much better lawyer. Negotiating can be challenging, and it's easy to get caught up in reactivity. But by recognizing when I'm feeling annoyed or disregulated, I can consciously bring myself back to a calm state. This allows me to keep my client calm, think clearly, and come up with solutions – because that's what we do: we solve problems for our clients." Lani's commitment to staying calm and centered not only enhances her ability to serve her clients, but also embodies the importance of leading with both heart and mind in the legal profession. Don't miss this episode where we dive deep into Lani's journey, her approach to law, and how mindfulness plays a crucial role in her success. 🎧 Tune in on Friday to discover how mindfulness can transform your professional life, too! #Mindfulness #LegalProfession #ConsciousCorner #Podcast #Leadership #MergersAndAcquisitions #LawyerLife #ProblemSolving #ProfessionalGrowth #Resilience

Managing Partner Roger E. Barton and Operations Partner James E. Heavey, Esq. recently co-authored an article tackling two recent decisions by the Supreme Court: Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo (which overturned the precedential 1984 case Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council) and SEC v. Jarkesy. The overturning of Chevron serves to overturn judicial deference to federal agencies when interpreting an ambiguous or silent statute, while Jarkesy opens up the door for certain conflicts to be adjudicated by a jury trial rather than by in-house agency tribunals. I recently teamed up with Michael (Ellenhorn) of Decipher Investigative Intelligence as part of the Managing Partner Forum to answer legal leaders’ questions about lateral hiring. We talked about how to grow your firm strategically and perform due diligence on potential new hires to leverage talent to your firm's competitive advantage. We also fielded audience-posed questions related to making your firm an attractive option to laterals, vetting a candidate’s financial information and book of business, evaluating M&A options, and managing conflicts of interest when attorneys move firms.   Thanks to John Remsen, Jr., Uri Gutfreund, and MPF for the opportunity to speak!
