Law360 wrote about Garland Gantt, III’s return to our national Finance Department, Housing Finance and Public Finance groups, and Washington, D.C. office. Garland spoke to James Boyle about why Ballard Spahr is the right place for him. “I feel really at home here, it is a very supportive environment," he said. “Ballard Spahr immediately encouraged me to grow and chase my own business and develop my own relationships with clients. They helped me grow my skills from my first day as a summer associate, and pretty soon I was running my own deals.” Read more of what Garland had to say: https://bit.ly/3TghVEi #BallardFinance #AffordableHousing #PublicFinance

RealPage, a software program used by apartment building owners and managers, is under fire from federal antitrust regulators for allegedly enabling a 21st-century form of price-fixing by facilitating collusion among apartment managers on rental rates. To gain a better understanding of what regulators see as problematic about RealPage’s model, Justin Bachman from Industry Dive spoke to Ed Rogers of our Antitrust and Competition Group. “It’s the idea that I’m sharing with you data that it is not in my economic interest to share with you, unless we have a deal,” Ed noted. 15 years ago my first pro bono 501(c)(3) formation client was Seeds 4 Success. I could not be more proud to serve on the board and celebrate their first 15 years. Seeds is a small nonprofit in Annapolis with an outsized impact! All of my Anne Arundel friends, please consider donating to celebrate their success. To all of my other contacts - consider searching out and supporting a small local nonprofit in your own community. The dollars really make a difference!
Seeds 4 Success' Learn provides children in grades PK-5 with a 1:1 mentor, weekly literacy and math intervention, social-emotional skill-building, and enrichment to achieve academic success. In this week’s Consumer Finance Monitor podcast episode–which repurposes a recent webinar–Alan Kaplinsky leads a group of our Consumer Financial Services attorneys as they dive in to the CFPB’s latest effort to augment its supervisory and enforcement authorities through aggressive rulemaking. Alan and the panelists discuss a recent final rule that requires certain nonbank entities to register with the CFPB after running afoul of consumer protection laws, as well as the CFPB’s recent indication that boilerplate terms may not immunize contract language from being found to be deceptive, among other topics.
