OUR FOUNDER Almost 100 years in the making, Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center was founded in 1922 by a wonderful, strong and giving woman. Instead, Margaretta and her niece, Kate Scudder opened their hearts and their home to the community. The purpose of the foundation was “the promotion of Education, Art, Science, Psychic Research, and Religion. Margaretta was the original STEAM educator. • As the Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center embarks on its second century of providing art to our community and carrying out the mission of Margaretta Baker Hunt, we welcome John Kennedy as the new Executive Director. John will follow Karen Etling, who has retired as of August 20th, 2024. During Karen’s tenure of seven years, she successfully expanded the curriculum, increased the number of students, expanded outreach, preserved and improved the assets of Baker Hunt, and brought art to our community. We cannot thank Karen enough for her dedication, passion, and tireless work to advance the mission of Margaretta Baker Hunt. We wish Karen the best as she begins her well-earned and deserved retirement. John Kennedy comes to Baker Hunt from an extensive career in education, most recently as Headmaster of Covington Latin School. He led schools for two decades prior to that in North Georgia and San Antonio, after he and his wife taught in American schools in El Salvador and Egypt. He and his wife, Christin, have two adult sons and live in an 1858 house just blocks from Baker Hunt. John says “I am excited to build on the great work of Karen Etling and the talented and dedicated team at Baker Hunt”. Come meet John at “Twilight in the Carnival”, Baker Hunt's annual fundraising event, on September 14th, 7-9:00 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. • Enjoy live music by Exit 57, during our annual fundraiser, Twilight at the Carnival, September 14th from 7-9:30 pm. Proceeds support our outreach program, making art experiences available to many schools that rely solely on Baker Hunt for art education. We also provide weekly art activities to local senior-care facilities, and to organizations that provide wellness activities to our Veterans. You can support the mission simply by attending, or making a donation to go towards our outreach program. We are also accepting donations for our silent auction. Tickets can be purchased at www.bakerhunt.org/events. Inquiries for sponsorships or donations can be sent to [email protected]
