“By any measure, NAWCA has been a wildly successful program. Since 1989 NAWCA has conserved more than 32 million acres of wetlands. Over that period, grassland bird species have declined by 40 percent while waterfowl populations on the whole have gone up. Certainly not all that [increase] can be attributed to NAWCA, but NAWCA has been the premier, primary program for wetlands conservation in the U.S. and across North America. We think the NAWCA model is what grasslands conservation needs in order to be successful.” --Kaden McArthur, BHA Government Relations Manager https://lnkd.in/gpYcHrgc

Another fence down and habitat opened up! 🏞️ Last week, our BHA habitat stewardship team volunteered to tackle fence removal on the Villa Grove State Trust Lands in Colorado’s San Luis Valley. This project, led by Western State University student Patrick Kenney, helps restore vital habitat for deer, elk, and the Gunnison sage grouse. We worked alongside experts Cary Aloia and Jenny Nehring of WETLAND DYNAMICS, who shared their decades of knowledge and conservation expertise. Together, we cleared a ¼ mile of old fencing—a small, but important dent—ensuring safer passage for wildlife and better habitat connectivity. Thanks to all who lent a hand. We hope to be back again soon to pull some more!

When a Texas BHA member finds themselves in Alaska, what are the odds they discover a #PublicLandsPaleAle? After soaking in the beauty of Mendenhall Glacier and the Tongass National Forest, the Corporate Sponsor Chair for the Texas Chapter of BHA made an unexpected discovery... He wandered into Forbidden Peak Brewery to discover their CAMO Pale Ale — part of the BHA Public Lands Pale Ale collection “Coincidence? I think not! Supporting public lands with a crisp, refreshing ale after hiking those same lands—talk about full circle. To know that every sip plays a part in preserving the incredible places I just explored was nothing short of magical.” -Colin Nelson A huge thank you to all the breweries participating this month, including Alaska’s Forbidden Peak Brewery, and helping protect the incredible wild places we all love. #PublicLandsMonth
