An exciting development in cancer research has been presented by the Mayo Clinic: Researchers have characterized a biobank of uveal melanoma patient-derived organoids to determine the feasibility of this model as a means for drug screening. With a combined multi-omics approach, including whole exome sequencing and RNA sequencing from our labs, they concluded that patient-derived organoids retain molecular features of the source tumor. This breakthrough indicates that organoids can serve as a powerful platform for drug screening.
