What a week! After months of construction, we're so excited to see our Lifting Youth Drop-In Center buzzing with new energy and new faces. Jasmine told us, "I love everything. I love the bathrooms, the showers - it's not like taking a bird bath - the showers are huge!" What was once Aviva High School has been renovated into a safe, welcoming space to meet the unique needs of some of our community's most vulnerable youth: unhoused, foster, and LGBTQ+ youth.

As you know, Aviva has been facing a state insurance crisis. While it has been challenging, it’s also been incredibly inspiring. We sprang into action—engaging the media, advocating locally and at the state level, and exploring all possibilities to ensure the safety of the children and families we serve. Thanks to you raising your voices, we have successfully secured the insurance coverage needed to continue operating our Foster and Adoption Program! While this is a significant victory for Aviva, our work is far from over. We will continue to advocate for foster children and youth, ensuring they remain in safe and loving homes. We will also continue to support the many agencies still at risk of closing their doors should they be unable to secure affordable insurance.

Aviva Family & Children’s Services has been grappling with a threat to Foster Family Agencies (FFAs) across California. Earlier this year, the Nonprofits Insurance Alliance of California (NIAC), the primary insurer for 90% of FFAs across the state, announced it might cease renewing policies for FFAs. This change, initially expected in 2025, is happening faster than anticipated. Some agencies have already received non-renewal notices. For Aviva, our policy renewal deadline is November 1, leaving us little time to find solutions. Amber Rivas, MSW was interviewed by CBS news to talk about this developing crisis. WE hope you'll watch and share.

Aviva Family & Children’s Services has been grappling with an alarming development threatening Foster Family Agencies (FFAs) across California. Since 1988, Aviva has played a critical role in providing safe, nurturing homes for children in the foster care system. However, the stability of our programs—and the futures of thousands of vulnerable children—hangs on an unfolding insurance crisis.
