It’s a big misconception: that HITRUST is just for healthcare. We understand how that came about. The acronym its founders gave it in 2007 stood for the Health Information Trust Alliance. But it’s become so much more than that. It’s the gold standard in cybersecurity certifications for the private sector, and it’s meant to be one size fits all. If a company in any industry is looking to improve its cybersecurity stance, there’s no other way to go. It stems back to what #HITRUST is. In essence, HITRUST is a combination of all the best compliance frameworks out there. 800-53 and ISO 27001 were the initial founding blocks, and since then they’ve added things from SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA. And it’s not one-and-done compliance. A HITRUST-certified customer has to do something every single year, so it’s continued improvement. That approach pays off. HITRUST’s Truth Report contained a compelling stat: 99.4% of HITRUST certified environments reported no breach in 2022 or 2023. (Image from HITRUST’s 2024 Truth Report)
