@avalonhealingcenterdetroit has exciting news! Our new forensic exam site at Children’s Hospital Detroit is officially open. Our site is located behind the Children’s emergency department. This will allow us more convenient and timely access to examinations for children and their families. Thank you to The Carl’s Foundation for their generous support and advocacy for survivors. Additionally, they have helped us to update our children’s waiting space at our healing center. AND thank you to @childrenshospitalofmichigan for donating the space necessary to administer these vital services. Yesterday was the best day @avalonhealingcenterdetroit 💙💙💙 Because of our news coverage from @wxyzdetroit and @fox2detroit We were able to find our anonymous “Avalon angels” Otis and Darnell - the wonderful guys who came and cleaned the graffiti off our building. 🥲Thank you to Detroit Blight Removal! We now have a contact if we should ever need anything! Our work is not always easy….but no matter what we’re here for survivors 💯 and these folks sure did put a smile on our faces - reminding us that we’re not alone in this fight. URGENT SUPPORT ‼️ On Monday, September 2, 2024, Avalon Healing Center (601 Bagley) was targeted by a vandal. This individual came to the center around 6:30pm and tagged the building with a very derogatory message regarding sexual violence. The vandal tagged the building with this message: "I love it when I'm not asked" implying that survivors are okay with rape and/or being raped. Avalon Healing Center (formerly WC Safe) has been a beacon of hope and healing for so many survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking for 19 years and to be targeted by such a hateful message on our building is appalling. We provide a safe space where survivors are welcomed and supported on their healing journey. We have always felt safe and supported by the community. This act of violence not only feels like a deliberate attack on Avalon Healing Center but a deterrent for those seeking help. Currently we do not have 24/7 security and felt very safe in this location. We are now in the process of changing this dynamic. We invite our local news media stations out to help us bring awareness around this incident (right across from the Police Department.

Saturday was an amazing day of awareness at the 2nd annual Stomping Out Human Trafficking Event. @avalonhealingcenterdetroit is a huge part of the Detroit Human Trafficking Task Force and we helped to host this impactful event. It also happened to be World Day Against Human Trafficking. The event took place at Palmer Park in Detroit and was free to all Detroit families. We had an awareness rally, educational forum, free food and fun!
