AGA, in partnership with USPTO, held an incredible program to spotlight consumer protection with a focus on the Pacific Region of the world. AGA CFO and Director of Alliance Partnership Mexico, Frank Collins, was honored to speak and moderate alongside esteemed colleagues from state, local, federal, academic, and nonprofit organizations to address consumer protection issues. As we know, protecting consumers does not end at our borders and requires broad engagement from stakeholders ranging from state AGs, the judiciary, all levels of law enforcement, academia, and beyond. Proud to have partnered with federal agencies and other organizations like National Association of Attorneys General, to help facilitate these critical conversations in furtherance of enforcing the rule of law at home and abroad.

Where US state Attorneys General collaborate on emerging legal issues and rule of law at home and across borders.
About us
The Attorney General Alliance (AGA) hosts U.S. state Attorneys General in their collaborations on emerging legal issues like cannabis regulation, sports betting, and cybercrime as well as our growing international relationships. Founded in the West, the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) has always been a home for western state Attorneys General to collaborate on traditionally western issues like public lands, water rights and tribal issues. With associate members joining from all over the country, and transnational legal issues emerging around the world, our interests and expertise have ventured beyond the boundaries of the West. The Alliance Partnership in Mexico and the Africa Alliance Partnership have reached new heights, fighting against transnational criminal activity that knows no borders. We all suffer the effects of cybercrime, money laundering and human trafficking rings that reach into our states. Attorneys General around the world can be our allies in protecting our citizens at home. We are an alliance of Attorneys General, federal, state and foreign officials, and public and private sector partners throughout the world. We are the Attorney General Alliance.

As part of AGA’s International Rule of Law Program, our Alliance Partnership has concluded its XIV Mock Trial Competition in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Alliance Partnership promotes bi-national understanding, collaboration, and best practices to improve the adversarial criminal justice system in Mexico. Thank you to our wonderful host Nebraska Attorney General Michael Hilgers and his incredible staff for their support throughout the event. Their contributions were invaluable, and we could not have done it without them! Congratulations to the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office for prevailing over the Tlaxcala Attorney General’s Office! Both teams demonstrated excellence in this robust and hard fought mock trial. Many thanks to our instructors who served as judges - Anthony Da Silva, Kelli Ceraolo, and Michael Guinan. Serving as our coaches were Glen Asay, William Tangeman, Demetria Herman, and Mariah Nickel, each of whom also gave of their time and expertise.

State AGs engage to protect people in so many ways, that’s why AGA values the opportunity to bring AG staff together to focus on problem solving and collaboration. October 23-25, 2024, we will do that in Deadwood, SD and have working group meetings on Cybersecurity & Data Privacy, Human Trafficking, Cannabis Project, Sports Betting & Online Gaming, and Organized Retail Crime. And we’re excited to have the first meeting of our newest initiative - Mental Health. Through comprehensive training, this initiative seeks to deepen understanding and strengthen responses to mental health challenges. The working group will prioritize reducing stigma and supporting first responders, veterans, and healthcare providers.

Following the deeply impactful delegation to Normandy honoring the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, AGA, along with the National Association of Attorneys General, wants to recognize a very special former state attorney general - Frank Bellotti. Frank was Attorney General of Massachusetts from 1975-1987. But before serving there, Frank was a United States Navy Frogman in World War II. Frank is now 101 and, to our knowledge, is the only living World War II veteran who also served as a state attorney general! Recently Frank was honored at the unveiling of a Lone Sailor statue in Quincy, Massachusetts. In recognition of Frank’s service as a Frogman — which was the predecessor to today’s Navy SEALs — Vice Admiral Colin J. Kilrain, Retired, presented and pinned his Navy SEAL Trident pin on to Frank. Please join us in recognizing the sacrifice and dedication that Frank has brought forth on behalf of our nation over his 101 years! We cannot think of a more fitting capstone to our Normandy Delegation and the experiences shared and lessons learned. https://lnkd.in/g46Xg-wz

The landscape of cyber threats is constantly evolving, from sophisticated cybercrime and disruptive computer outages to deceptive AI deep fakes and pervasive online scams. State attorneys general play a vital role in safeguarding consumers against these threats. Through the dedicated efforts of AGA’s Cyber Working Group, there is enhanced collaboration and resource sharing to combat cybercriminals effectively. We look forward to our next meeting in Deadwood, SD on October 23-25, 2024. The 80th anniversary of D-Day is a powerful reminder of the enduring relationship between the United States and France, highlighting our shared commitment to democracy and justice. For state attorneys general, the cooperation during the Normandy landings serves as a testament to the strength of unity in facing adversity. Today, as we tackle complex international legal issues from organized crime to human trafficking to data privacy, the spirit of collaboration remains essential. Cross-cultural exchanges of information and best practices enhance our ability to uphold justice and protect human rights. Our shared history underscores the importance of religious freedom, the fight against antisemitism and all hate crime, and the protection of individual liberties. By learning from each other's experiences and challenges, we can reinforce our commitment to these values and ensure they are upheld in our societies. As part of AGA’s International Rule of Law Program, we will continue to foster dialogue and cooperation to advance justice and the rule of law for a brighter future.

As we recognize French-American Heritage Month this July, it's a great moment to reflect on the profound and enduring relationship between the United States and France. This year holds particular significance as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal event in World War II that underscored our shared commitment to democracy, justice, and the rule of law - the core tenants of AGA’s International Rule of Law Program. The collaboration and sacrifices made during D-Day exemplify our collective resolve to protect these ideals against tyranny and oppression. As state attorneys general, there are invaluable lessons to be drawn from this shared history. The cooperation exhibited during the Normandy landings demonstrates the strength of unity in the face of adversity. Today, as we navigate complex international legal landscapes, this spirit of collaboration remains crucial.

AGA is thrilled to launch a groundbreaking Mental Health Initiative for state attorneys general! This initiative aims to deepen the understanding of mental health challenges and enhance the response through comprehensive training focused on reducing mental health stigma, and providing support for First Responders, our veterans, and healthcare providers. Through both in-person and virtual training options, AGs and their teams will emerge as informed leaders, equipped with the knowledge to advocate for robust mental health policies and support structures within their states. The initiative will also empower AGs to create valuable resources for community education. This Initiative will strive to drive meaningful change in mental health care and foster a more compassionate and informed society. We are eagerly anticipating the positive impact this transformative journey will bring!
