Many say that nursing isn’t just a job, it’s a calling - and that couldn’t be truer for Lorna Espinal. She lost her father to a brain tumor at a young age, and her mother was a dedicated nurse in Nicaragua. Through these personal experiences, Lorna saw firsthand the devastating impact of cancer and the crucial role of caregiving. Lorna's dedication to our patients and their families is evident in her daily work as a bilingual nurse navigator. She says, “I knew from the moment I took care of a patient and their family members that this is what I was called to do in life. Therefore, I always remember the Florence Nightingale pledge and that is to elevate the standard of my profession.” Recently, Lorna had the honor of representing Levine Cancer on an international stage at the first Multidisciplinary Cancer Management Course (MCMC) in Argentina. There, she presented on the importance of the nurse navigator role and discussed how oncology nursing certification promotes professionalism within the multidisciplinary team. When she’s not working, Lorna says she loves to stay active - road cycling, traveling and being with her family. We’re so thankful to have Lorna on our team. Adelyne’s passion for healthcare and athletics led her to a rewarding career as an athletic trainer. Growing up as an athlete, she dreamed of combining her love for sports with helping others. “As an athletic trainer, I’m with athletes through their injury and return-to-play process. Seeing them step back onto the field and do what they love is something that will never grow old,” she shares. Since joining Atrium Health in 2023, Adelyne has thrived. “Atrium offers endless opportunities for growth. I’ve attended Pro Football Cares Sports Emergency Response Training with the Carolina Panthers, and their programs like Heart of a Champion inspired me even before I joined.” At North Lincoln High School, Adelyne’s days are dynamic. “No day is ever the same. I start with treatment and rehab, then tackle practices or games—sometimes managing up to six teams at once! It’s never dull, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Adelyne values Atrium Health’s supportive culture and commitment to wellness. “Atrium prioritizes work-life balance and high-quality care. I feel valued not only as an employee but also as a person.” She also appreciates resources like mileage compensation and the Educational Assistance program, which help her grow personally and professionally. Her advice to aspiring athletic trainers? “Go for it! Atrium has given me the best work experience of my career.” Outside of work, Adelyne enjoys walking her puppy, reading thrillers, and cheering on Appalachian State.
