Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. It may have an intimidating name, but the procedure itself is giving many patients with brain tumors a highly-effective treatment option without traditional surgery. The new Proton & Advanced Radiation Center started offering Gamma Knife Radiosurgery earlier this year and our team has already successfully performed more than 100 procedures. So, exactly what is Gamma Knife and how does it work? Our team of experts explains in the video below. Plus, our 100th patient, Allan Quaife, shares his personal experience which he describes as “much easier than he expected”. Read Allan’s story here: https://bit.ly/3RT6PV3

NHL Hall of Fame goalie Henrik Lundqvist, known for his legendary career with the New York Rangers, turned to Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute for a critical heart diagnosis. Under the expert care of Dr. Dermot Phelan, our renowned sports cardiologist, Henrik navigated a daunting health challenge with grace and resilience. Henrik shares, "There were a lot of emotions in that moment – realizing not only that I wasn’t going to play, but also that I probably needed surgery soon. It’s frightening, and there is a lot of sadness you have to deal with, but I was happy." His inspiring journey is poignantly captured in the film "Open Heart," now available on Netflix. We are deeply honored to have played a role in Henrik's journey ❤️ More: https://bit.ly/3RQQuQs

Meet Katie, a devoted nurse practitioner in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) at Atrium Health Levine Children's. Katie describes her role with heartfelt enthusiasm. “I’ve been a nurse practitioner in the CVICU since 2014, helping to manage and care for critically ill newborns up to teenagers with cardiac problems.” Her expertise and compassion have been pivotal in providing high-quality care to young patients facing severe cardiac issues. Katie's dedication to Atrium Health Levine Children’s extends beyond her professional life. “LCH and our congenital heart program were here for my family when we most needed it. My second child was diagnosed with a critical heart defect at 10 weeks old," she shares. "We couldn’t have been luckier to have a world-class hospital and teammates to care for my own child!” This personal experience fuels her daily commitment to work. Her love for pediatrics is deeply rooted in her admiration for children’s resilience. “Kids are the most amazing kind of humans," she says. "They have the ability to bounce back from death’s doorstep like nothing ever happened. I will never not be amazed every single day by them." Katie takes great pride in the unique aspects of Atrium Health Levine Children’s. “I love the fact that LCH has world-class providers and programs within a small and close-knit community. The patients here are never just a number or statistic to us. They become important and familiar to us in both a professional and personal sense,” she explains. Outside of work, Katie enjoys a rich and fulfilling personal life. She loves spending time with her husband and kids at the beach, visiting the mountains and reading. “You’ll also catch me volunteering at the hospital on my days off with my therapy dog, Libby!” she adds. Katie offers valuable advice to those entering the field of pediatric care; “Keep an open mind, and be ready for the unexpected. So many of our patients take the textbook and throw it right out the window. It’s one of the hardest jobs you’ll do, but there is nothing more rewarding than the smile of a recovered child and their family.” #AtriumHealthCareers #TeammateStory #LevineChildrens #CVICUJobs #LiveFully

“This is a BIG DEAL!” Advocate Health Chief Nursing Officer - Southeast Region, Janice Walker pretty much summed it up after Atrium Health Union, along with Atrium Health Union West, Atrium Health Anson and Atrium Health Waxhaw were recognized with the prestigious Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the @American Nurses Association, recognizing its commitment to creating a healthy work environment. So why is it such a big deal? The application, review and designation process take years to complete. There are only six other designated Pathway to Excellence facilities in the state of North Carolina (oh and by the way, Atrium Health Cabarrus is one of them). This is also the first time within Advocate Health that multiple hospitals under the same Chief Nursing Officer leadership have achieved this prestigious recognition at the same time. We are dedicated to creating a positive place for nurses to practice, which leads to exceptional outcomes for our patients and the families who support them. It’s about making sure we are supporting our nurses from every angle – encouraging their professional development through career growth opportunities and our extensive professional governance structure, supporting their physical safety and well-being to make sure our nurses are cared for too, and above all else, holding one another to the highest possible standards for nursing excellence. This is what it means to be an Atrium Health nurse. Join our incredible nursing team: https://lnkd.in/gsXihiNr

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s Emergency Care Video Visit program has recently expanded across the Carolinas, serving over 1,000 patients in the past three months. This program is an innovative care model that allows patients to schedule a virtual visit with an emergency department provider. Using the innovative platform, 78% of patients avoided unnecessary ED visits, with 59% completing their consultations virtually and 19% being referred for outpatient evaluation. The Emergency Care Video Visit program has helped to provide patients with the reassurance they need to seek the most appropriate care for themselves and their loved ones. We are proud of the advancement to make care more convenient and accessible #FORALL Learn more: https://bit.ly/45AxkE3

Because one child lost to gun violence is too many. At the center of Atrium Health Levine Children’s lies an unwavering commitment to protecting the children of our community and beyond. On Gun Violence Prevention Day, June 7, many of our dedicated team members united to raise awareness by wearing orange and sharing crucial insights on firearm safety. Callie Dobbins, senior vice president of Atrium Health Levine Children’s, recently visited the White House with health care executives from across the country to address this urgent public health crisis that continues to impact our children. United in purpose, our team is fiercely advocating to keep our children safe. 🧡 Gun Safety Facts from the American Academy of Pediatrics: - Gun violence is the leading cause of death in children - Children as young as 3 years may be strong enough to pull the trigger on a handgun - Kids are safer when firearms are unloaded and stored separately from ammunition in a lockbox or safe - Kids are safest when firearms are safely stored outside of the home
