Atlanta country artist Zac Brown recently put his Lake Lanier home up for sale for $3.25 million. He purchased the property for $1.8 million in June 2020, soon after the pandemic began. It’s about 45 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. The seven-bedroom home in a gated community on the south side of Lake Lanier is not far from where he grew up in Cumming. https://lnkd.in/etmarJf2

The Home Depot ranks in the bottom 100 companies in the S&P 500 index for median pay. But it ranks near the top of those corporations in buying back its own stock shares, billions that instead could have been spent improving wages, according to a report from a Washington, D.C., think tank. Lowe's Companies, Inc. and Home Depot ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on stock buybacks from 2019 to 2023, money that could have more than doubled the annual pay for a median worker at the two huge home improvement retailers, said the left-of-center Institute for Policy Studies, which advocates overhauling CEO compensation and narrowing the pay gap between workers and top executives. Envisioning something the size of 19 million square feet is hard for anyone to picture. That’s nearly 15 times the amount of floor space contained within Bank of America Plaza Atlanta, the city’s tallest building. Or 12 Lenox Square malls. Something of that scope is a massive development even when compared to Atlanta’s most notable landmarks. In documents filed Thursday with the state, a development team outlined a planned 19 million-square-foot, mixed-use industrial park along I-75 in rural Lamar County — about an hour south of Atlanta — called Legacy 75 Trade Center. CrowdStrike is offering clients a rather small package of incentives as recompense for the global information technology outage sparked by a faulty software update last month. A unique workforce housing project that’s geared toward employees of Atlanta Public Schools and seniors is moving forward. New Jersey-based RBH Group received the greenlight recently from the Development Authority of Fulton County to issue up to $370 million in federally tax-exempt bonds to redevelop 98 Cone St. into “Teachers Village Atlanta.” The 34-story project will replace a parking lot and parking deck a block from Centennial Olympic Park, offering rent-capped and subsidized housing. The Atlanta project, which was first proposed in 2019, will act as the poster child of the developer’s vision to provide educators with housing near transit in downtowns across the country. Eat mor chikin. Stream mor video. Georgia’s own fast food giant, Chick-fil-A, is reportedly launching its own streaming platform and working with major production companies to create family-friendly shows. The company plans to launch a slate of original shows with an emphasis on unscripted content, according to Deadline Hollywood, which was first to report the news. It is unclear where these reported shows will be filmed, but Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew T. Cathy probably knows who to call to find some studio space. His father, and Chick-fil-A Chairman Dan T. Cathy, is a majority owner of Trilith Studios, one of the largest production facilities in the nation. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dwNwvdax

DIRECTV subscribers have lost access to ESPN and ABC News stations due to a dispute with Disney over the rights to air its cable stations. The blackout has sparked frustration across social media, particularly among sports fans, as it comes at a critical time with college football in full swing and the NFL season just days away. ESPN was airing major events like the U.S. Open and important baseball matchups before going dark, further fueling the outrage. This marks the second consecutive year that ESPN has gone off the air on a major carrier during the U.S. Open and the first full weekend of college football. The first football game subscribers missed was between the USC Trojans and LSU Tigers, as well as the fourth round of the U.S. Open. The Georgia economy will pick up speed next year with a tail wind coming from a series of expected interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University. But without assertive rate cuts, there is a better than even chance of an economic downturn, Rajeev Dhawan, the center’s director said. “The labor market is weakening. They need to be aggressive to make sure that the soft landing is not hard,” Dhawan said of the Fed. Read more about Dhawan’s forecast: https://lnkd.in/eZ6iE7by

A little over a week ago, Ryan Wilson and Lakeysha Hallmon, EdD, entrepreneurs and leaders in Atlanta’s Black business community, were texting about a disturbing trend they had noticed. All around Atlanta, Black small businesses are shutting their doors. Wilson said they knew they had to do something about it. So, they called “a family meeting.” On Tuesday night, about 500 people came to hear Wilson, Hallmon, entrepreneurs like Slutty Vegan founder Pinky Cole and leaders of financial institutions and nonprofits talk about the realities of being a Black business owner at this moment. Read more to learn the blunt and honest assessments entrepreneurs like Cole gave about how their businesses are faring: https://lnkd.in/e4-GXART
