UNF is offering an elective Commercial Construction class based on ABC's national Construction Management Competition format, in which students will develop an RFP response throughout the semester and present their proposals at the end of the semester. From Seth Hall, CSP, CHST, Safety Manager for Danis & ABC FFC Safety Committee Member: Excavation activities are a critical component for many construction projects, involving the removal of soil and rock to install foundations, utilities, stormwater drainage systems, etc. While essential, these excavations pose significant risks to workers, including cave-ins, being struck by/caught between incidents, potential exposure to hazardous atmospheres, and more. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing number of significant injuries and fatalities related to excavations, this topic remains on the National Emphasis Program for OSHA. This white paper will provide an overview of best practices and excavation requirements.
