Silverstein et al. share a case in which IONM detected an infiltrated IV line during a left frontal craniotomy for tumor resection. The timely identification and intervention of the infiltrated IV, made possible by IONM, contributed to the patient’s recovery with no postoperative neurological deficits. Recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury during neck surgery has the potential to cause significant morbidity related to vocal cord (VC) dysfunction. Simmons et al. describe a novel protocol to optimize uniformity in the placement of EMG endotracheal tubes to improve the reliability of RLN monitoring.
