This new initiative is no exception: the Made in Old Town project "will explore many possibilities — from material substitutions or the use of circular economy processes, such as engineering shoes so that they can be repaired or reused more readily." Performance apparel is an ideal fit for resale, and this is becoming especially evident in the cycling industry. As interest in the sport surges—most recently evidenced by a spike in Google searches for "used cycling gear" during the 2024 Olympics—brands like Velocio, Pas Normal Studios, and Café du Cycliste are introducing innovative resale programs. These initiatives provide more sustainable and budget-friendly options, making cycling gear more accessible through secondhand apparel at lower prices. "Cycling apparel tends to be more expensive than everyday apparel, with some jerseys listed for upwards of $200. Buying these items via resale, where price points are lower, allows people to test out the sport without spending big on products like high-tech bike shorts or cycling tights."
