Americans love trees and understand the positive role they play in our lives. 88% of people regularly engage in activities around trees and green spaces. Those who engage on a daily basis are happier and score higher in their mental and physical health scores than those spending time in nature less often, according to our Canopy Report. And yet, we want more access. 77% percent of people said they wished their neighborhood had more trees and green spaces while more than HALF of Americans say they need to drive to their nearest green space. It's time that Americans don't have to get behind the wheel to get to nature 🌳 https://lnkd.in/gpGvnR5j

Wood for the roof thoughtfully sourced from forests within a day’s drive. Partnerships with local tribes and sustainable forestry pros. 100% local shops and restaurants. That’s only the start of the story of how people from around the Pacific Northwest came together to make the new spaces at the Portand International Airport even more of a reflection of their region. As you pass through a cluster of real-life trees thriving under the skylights, the people who carefully selected dozens of plant types hope you get a sense that you’re in a local park. That, of course, required a lot of strategic thinking, too, as most regional flora won’t naturally survive indoors — so the team at the Portland-based landscape firm PLACE searched for botanical “dupes” that would happily live in the busy airport. Even if you’re not a green thumb, the new green spaces support a more calming and laid-back feeling in busy airport zones. Yet another example of how trees can transform spaces for the better 🌳 📷 City of Portland, Port of Portland https://pdxnext.com/About

In this day and age of climate dread, people are asking themselves, what can they do? There’s one thing that almost everybody can be a part of, and that is planting trees. Thank you Better Homes and Gardens and Leanne Potts for shedding light on how trees can transform our environment and improve our quality of life 🌳 https://lnkd.in/gjhV9tnV

When we say we’re focusing our efforts on planting 500 million trees in areas of greatest need, we’re talking about forests and communities where planting trees will have the biggest impact and do the most good for not just people in that area, but the world as a whole. We identify those areas by using the latest scientific data and the help of our global network of planting partners. Think of cities with the highest levels of smog and air pollution, where underserved residents have higher instances of respiratory conditions and a lower quality of life. Think of forests that are important to the planet’s air quality and ecosystems, like the Amazon Rainforest, that have been devastated by logging, farming, and wildfires. When we plant trees in those areas, we’re able to slow the mounting effects of a changing climate. We’re in this together, affected by what happens down the street, over state lines, and in other continents. #ATreeCanBe an answer, protecting our future for generations. https://lnkd.in/gFjR-mU2

We're living in an era in which trust is hard-won and easily lost. In the face of potential criticism, silence can feel like a safe bet. But in reality, it's a dangerous gamble for the well-being of our planet. When businesses keep their climate actions under wraps, they undermine their own ability to make a meaningful impact. In a time when we should be accelerating the momentum of corporate climate action, greenhushing is slowing it down and depriving green initiatives of the attention and investment they desperately need. History's greatest movements did not happen in the dark. True progress requires openness. Sometimes it's messy. Sometimes it might yield criticism. And that's okay. Learn more in Inc. Among humans, it’s safe to say that those who are older are indeed wiser. The same holds true for trees. Old-growth forests have some of the oldest trees on the planet that do more than we can ever imagine. Soaring, majestic, protective, enlightened, these trees link us to our past and defend us from an uncertain environmental future. Old trees know what it takes to keep our planet healthy. We’d be wise to do whatever it takes to protect them 💪

Meet Esther, a dedicated steward of the land in Nicaragua. Esther knows the toll farming can have on the land. She and her husband have been farming for the past 15 years. After learning about the reforestation program, she knew it was the right thing to do for her land and family. She has the space and the desire to protect the environment and strengthen the soil for her kids and grandkids. In Somoto, Nicaragua, our partners ar Taking Root are incentivizing farmers like Esther Estrada Espinoza to plant trees. A lot of trees. More trees lead to more possibilities. They lead to economic mobility. They lead to plant diversity and soil recovery. They lead to slowing the effects of climate change for the farmers and the producers who feel it the most.

Trees, trees, and more trees. Urban trees have the power to increase the good and reduce the bad. From improving air quality to boosting health to lowering temperatures to creating opportunities for people to go outside and connect, trees have the power to change our environment for the better. That's why we’re determined to plant more of them in neighborhoods where they’re needed most. Who’s with us? 🙌

BIG impact often comes from small beginnings 🌱 These hundreds of thousands of trees being planted in📍Nepal will dramatically restore forests AND improve livelihoods for those who call this region home. The planting sites are located in upland areas of the mountainous Nawalparasi District, along lowland alluvial plains, and around Chitwan National Park as a means of developing a buffer zone around this national treasure. Whether growing in a backyard, city park, national forest, or tropical rainforest, every tree on this planet is working hard to provide the necessities of life itself. Every tree counts. 📷 Eden Reforestation
