One of AMPATH’s founders, Charles R. Kelley, MD, passed away today after a long illness. Charlie was one of the four Indiana University School of Medicine faculty members who travelled to Kenya, Ghana and Nepal in 1988 in search of an academic health center partner. The partnership that was formed more than 35 years ago is now known around the world as AMPATH. It has provided care for hundreds of thousands of Kenyans and brought lessons learned through bidirectional educational exchanges and collaborative research back to Indiana and other resource-limited communities around the world. Charlie is remembered by his AMPATH co-founders, friends and colleagues as a humble servant leader with a deep faith that led him and his wife Loraine to careers in medicine and global service. We send our heartfelt condolences to Loraine, his daughters and all those that knew and loved him. Learn more about Charlie: https://lnkd.in/gJdKJckb

USAID 4TheChild kicks off distribution of business assets worth 7 million Kenya Shillings to improve beneficiary household economic productivity Moi University College of Health Sciences Principal, Prof. Robert Tenge, and AMPATH Executive Director Care, Prof Sylvester Kimaiyo, joined Kisumu County Governor H.E. Prof. Peter Nyong’o who officiated distribution of business assets to project beneficiaries. The business assets target beneficiaries involved in tailoring business, hair dressing and fast-food businesses (selling fries, fish and pastries). These assets will improve caregivers’ business performance resulting in increased household income and subsequently, improved household resilience. During the event, held at the Governor’s office compound in Kisumu City, Prof. Nyong’o expressed gratitude for the continued USAID government support through the project to empower communities and improve livelihoods in the county. “These tools symbolize hope and opportunity for our vulnerable families including the youth - providing them with a means of livelihood and a pathway to productivity,” he noted. Elizabeth Odindo, a beneficiary, noted that the tools will not only motivate them to work harder but also contribute to improved livelihoods of the community members. As part of its household strengthening approach, the project supports enterprises owned by the beneficiaries through provision of grants and assets, business incubation and market linkage. Also present during the event were Nyanza Regional Director for Children Services Jemin K’Onyango; USAID 4TheChild Chief of Party George Okoth; Deputy Chief of Party Kenneth Otieno; Finance Director Caren Onyango; other project staff, implementing partner staff, case workers and beneficiaries. The Chief of Party noted that the project has cumulatively invested over KES 1.4 billion in Kisumu County for the last four years for better health and related socio-economic outcomes. USAID 4TheChild is a PEPFAR funded five-year (March 2021 – March 2026) award implemented by Moi University College of Health Sciences in partnership with Make Me Smile Kenya, through the Academic Model Providing Access to Health (AMPATH). The project supports orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and their families as well as adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Kisumu and Siaya Counties. The project seeks to increase use of quality county-led health and social services for the target beneficiaries, working closely with national and county governments.

USAID AMPATH Uzima proudly participated in Global Customer Service Week, themed "Above and Beyond." This initiative united our dedicated staff and clients in recognizing the resilience and commitment that drive our healthcare outcomes. A highlight of the week was today's one-on-one sessions, where clients shared their appreciation for the unwavering support from our program management and staff throughout their health journeys. Discussions during these sessions focused on essential topics such as the importance of keeping clinic appointments, adherence to medication, U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable), and early initiation of antenatal care. Clients were also sensitized about the toll-free numbers available for feedback and were encouraged to continue sharing their experiences. We extend our gratitude to the program management, under the strong leadership of Chief of Party, Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo, for empowering our team to engage with clients meaningfully. Together, let’s maintain this momentum and commitment to excellence in service delivery! #CustomerServiceWeek #HealthcareExcellence #ClientEngagement
