In 2023, Impact Justice took a group of Americans to Finland to learn about "Nordic Model," which is a prison environment designed to nurture people’s growth and skills to return home, instead of punishing and excluding them from society. Our CEO Doug Bond was among those who took this journey to Finland to learn how countries have reduced their reliance on incarceration! Thank you Sydney Kamlager for your support for the mission of Amity Foundation and CASA LA! We greatly appreciate all that you do for our community.
Mental Health Recovery Specialist; Intensive Case Manager (ODR-ICMS) at Amity Foundation; Mentor; Activist
Honored to attend a recent press conference where Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman awarded $1.6 million in funding to Amity Foundation and Court-Appointed Special Advocates of Los Angeles (CASA-LA). Amity Foundation received $1,000,000 for the Amistad de Los Angeles residential re-entry facility and CASA/LA received $640,000 for the Transition Age Youth Program, which serves youth and non-minor dependents in the child welfare system at risk of entry or re-entry into the justice system. At the conference, Amity CEO Doug Bond and CASA/LA CEO Dr. Charity Chandler-Cole provided a platform for Amity alumni and CASA representatives to share their powerful testimonies where they spoke on the realities of growing up in marginalized communities and the critical need for resources for youth. After the press conference, I had the privilege of attending a panel discussion with Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove, Amity CEO Doug Bond, and CASA/LA CEO Dr. Charity Chandler-Cole. The discussion touched on the need for reforms in the justice system to better support individuals transitioning back into society, including expanding access to mental health services, stable housing, and employment opportunities. They also spoke about ways to improve cross-sector collaboration—ensuring that nonprofits, government agencies, and community-based organizations work together seamlessly to provide holistic support for our communities in need. Funding initiatives like these and advocating for systemic change are essential for breaking down the barriers faced by many within the child welfare and justice systems. I am deeply grateful to Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove and Acting HUD Secretary Todman for their dedication to these efforts! #Reentry #AmityFoundation #CASA #HUD #JusticeReform #VotingMatters #HousingIsHealthcare #HousingFirst
