Great news! Major changes to CPT requirements remove barriers for remote monitoring! The American Medical Association’s CPT Editorial Panel eliminated the requirement for a patient to transmit 16 days’ worth of data in order for providers to bill remote physiologic monitoring codes. The ATA and ATA Action have worked tirelessly for several years to amend this data reporting requirement – and special thanks goes to the ATA Remote Monitoring Special Interest Group for their leadership on this issue. We applaud the AMA Panel for removing barriers to RPM services. The new CPT codes will become effective January 2026. Emma Beavins at Fierce Healthcare reported: “Because patients are required to take the measurements themselves, such as by stepping on a connected weight scale or by using a connected blood pressure cuff, providers could not guarantee that patients would take enough readings in a month for the providers to be paid for the service. Providers argued that they didn’t need data for more than half the days in a month to be able to provide treatment based on remote monitoring data….” and for some conditions “reporting 16 days of data could be considered counterproductive.” https://lnkd.in/gN2pR5WN Kyle Zebley

Joseph Choi from The Hill recently reported that, with December deadlines fast approaching, a bipartisan group of lawmakers in both the House and Senate want another round of extensions secured, to give the Drug Enforcement Administration more time to appropriately craft a new proposed rule to allow appropriate remote prescribing of controlled substances. A letter led by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Lisa Murkowski, Mark Warner and Marsha Blackburn stressed that the agency must not restrict access to necessary and life-saving treatments. Our colleagues at ATA Action believe the DEA will be granted a one year extension. “We didn’t see how they could get a rule up and rightfully implemented prior to the end of this year, and so we had been asking for a clean extension of that flexibility, which the administration can do through existing authority past the end of the year,” noted the ATA’s Kyle Zebley. #telehealth Read more: https://lnkd.in/e3kZguEG
