One way that school systems can support strong instruction is through programs that build teachers’ knowledge and skills—teacher professional learning programs. In 2018, we partnered with The Danielson Group and Learning Forward to develop, pilot, improve, and evaluate the Professional Learning with Impact (PLI) program. With the Framework for Teaching as the program’s foundation, PLI’s design centers teacher professional learning within existing teacher learning teams and included both workshops and individual coaching. The program had a positive impact on students’ ELA achievement. See what we learned about implementing and scaling this program during COVID-19. #WorldTeachersDay https://lnkd.in/gmaEqPUh

Advancing Evidence. Improving Lives.
About us
Since 1946, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been advancing evidence to evolve systems, improve lives, and ultimately create a better, more equitable world. We are a nonprofit research and technical assistance institution working to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our experts in education, health, workforce, human services, and international development follow the evidence to find and apply solutions that will work. Our work helps policymakers make important decisions based on evidence, and we work with leaders, organizations, and communities to create more effective programs. We never stop digging to find what works and where we have more to learn.

The AIR/REL Midwest team presented key components from the ENACT partnership at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics - NCTM #NCTMCHI24 ✏️ The partnership helps 6th grade #teachers incorporate computational thinking and student-focused practices into #math curriculum. Session participants learned about key practices and left with strategies to help students approach and discuss math concepts. At AIR, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are a key part of our effort to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion in the workplace. We're spotlighting AIR's ERGs and leaders, starting with VIVA, which is dedicated to empowering and advancing Hispanic, Latino, and Chicano communities within AIR. Hear from VIVA leadership Abby Bandurraga and Morena Martinez, SHRM-CP about how VIVA champions professional development and fosters a supportive space for conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion. #HispanicHeritageMonth

We are deepening our commitment to addressing systemic inequities with an enhanced focus on research developed in partnership with communities across the U.S. The newly renamed AIR Opportunity Fund will invest in locally driven projects that address disparities in #education, #PublicSafety and policing, #WorkforceDevelopment, and community health and well-being. AIR VP and Opportunity Fund executive director Dr. Rashawn Ray explains how we're dismantling barriers and building a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive:

The U.S. Department of Education has selected AIR to operate four centers that support national, state, and local efforts to address educational challenges and help students thrive. ✨ AIR will lead three Regional Comprehensive Centers to help states across the U.S. incorporate evidence-based decisions into practice, increase equitable access to learning opportunities, improve the quality of classroom instruction, and address urgent issues like chronic absenteeism. We will also launch a new Fiscal Equity Center focused on developing equitable and adequate resource allocation strategies. AIR has operated Comprehensive Centers since the inception of the program in 2005, providing high-quality services and resources that support the #education field. https://lnkd.in/d-FAgc3f

“We believe that by working together with communities, we can build #evidence that provides solutions for everyone to thrive.” -Dr. Rashawn Ray, AIR VP and Executive Director of the AIR Opportunity Fund Since launching in 2021 as the AIR Equity Initiative, the newly renamed AIR Opportunity Fund has supported more than 70 projects aimed at dismantling barriers to opportunity in the U.S. and beyond. In 2023, we began looking to the future of this initiative, considering an expanded strategy to advance its goals: creating more opportunities for people and communities to thrive. We are proud to share that we have more than doubled our initial commitment to this effort, making the AIR Opportunity Fund a $225M investment for long-term change. The increased funding will support the continuation of current projects and partnerships while expanding the fund’s focus on community-led initiatives. https://lnkd.in/gn33uT5x

"If we want to improve our schools, we must also address the underlying #segregation in our communities. Policymakers, practitioners, and the public have the tools to integrate our schools and neighborhoods — but it will take bold action." -Terris Raiford Ross, Ph.D., Managing Director, AIR Equity Initiative Segregation is a growing issue in the United States, and nowhere is that seen more clearly than in our #PublicSchools. Evidence shows that school segregation disproportionately harms Black and Brown children, while integrated schools benefit all. Ahead of tonight's Equity Initiative-hosted symposium, Terris Ross reflects on the interconnected systems that contribute to school segregation, and what it will take for all students to have equitable opportunities to thrive. Atlanta Journal-Constitution subscribers, read on:
OPINION: Metro Atlanta is still very segregated. That's a problem for everyone

We are so excited to be in Atlanta this week for Opportunities Reimagined: Creating Educational Equity in Atlanta and Beyond. ✨ In partnership with The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center), the Southern Education Foundation, LEE, the Aspen Global Innovators Group, and Learn4Life Schools, the AIR Equity Initiative is uniting national experts with local educators, policymakers, and community advocates to reflect on school #integration and explore #evidence-informed solutions to advance #equity in #education. Speakers Carol Anderson, Andrew Young, Terris Raiford Ross, Ph.D., Raymond Pierce, and more will explore how issues of housing, school assignment, school boundaries, and transportation intersect and affect educational opportunities in action-oriented discussions moderated by Charles Blow. “Opportunities Reimagined” is more than a symposium; it is a call to action for all who care about the future of our nation’s students. https://lnkd.in/eDi3jwzr
