Experiments in urban settings, such as this open concrete veranda next to a building, show that the treated polyester cooled the air underneath regardless of the environment. Chemists at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering synthesized a sticky polymer that stays flexible at very cold temperatures.
