“Buildings do not exist in isolation, they are connected to other places. What flora and fauna are native, local, and regionally important? How can that be incorporated into an asset? By asking these questions, we can assure biodiversity efforts serve as a value enhancer.” - Breana Wheeler We had a fascinating discussion with Breana Wheeler, Director of Operations for BREEAM USA, about the importance of embracing biodiversity in the built environment. Congratulations to our partner LANXESS for winning the Pollinator Advocate Award from Pollinator Partnership! The LANXESS team is dedicated to breathing biodiversity back into their site. They've worked with us to install honey bee hives and wild bee habitats, ensuring these bees have the resources they need by transforming 1500 square feet of land into a pollinator garden. With our biomonitoring technology, they've been able to identify ways to improve landscaping practices and optimize the site for pollinators. The bees thank you! Here's his latest post about his day spent among the "nature-data nerds" 🤓 👇 ---- Notre cofondateur Declan Rankin Jardin est à Cali, en Colombie, pour la #COP16. Chaque jour, il partage ses réflexions sur l'expérience, alors ne manquez pas de le suivre!
It is days like yesterday that make it all worthwhile. Not surprisingly, I decided to spend all my time at the Nature Positive Pavilion, where "nature-data nerds" (a term mentioned many times in the room) packed in the well air-conditioned space to listen to NPI's thought leaders and contributors give their balanced views of where we are at. It was amazing to hear directly from Tony Goldner how 2 years out from COP15, they never imagined being this far along so quickly. Apparently he has a big announcement this Sunday... The message to "get-moving" and "get started" was what resonated for me. So much hesitation and perfectionism surrounds the idea of "nature-reporting" and "nature metrics", so it was a relief to hear from speakers that they are creating frameworks that keep that in mind! I loved hearing in no uncertain terms: "Suck it up and get started!" Matthew Bell Frank Hawkins My main takeaway: Between the business and scientific community, there is actually a ton of fortuitous consensus around target setting and metrics, largely because the nature movement has the benefit of piggybacking on the climate movement. People already have a conceptual understanding of climate as a financial risk, so nature is not a far stretch! By far the most inspiring, was to hear Emily McKenzie (TNFD) & Erin Billman(SBTN) trade points with such humility about the potential "temporary" spirit of their frameworks, which are built responding to a gap in our regulations and financial accounting, and how open they are to adapting, merging or even "building themselves out of a job" so to speak, once governments incorporate them into their structures. That kind of openness to the actual underlying objectives is inspiring. Marco Lambertini See the draft here: https://lnkd.in/ePPtGYNx
