What a beautiful day celebrating the power of partnership!
Federal and state partners and energy leaders gathered with ALLETE and Minnesota Power leaders today to highlight our key investment in a reliable grid. Leveraging existing assets along with $75 million in federal and state funding, we are modernizing our high-voltage, direct-current transmission system that delivers energy from North Dakota to Minnesota. “Building the clean-energy resources of the future is vitally important, and ALLETE is all in,” said Bethany M Owen, ALLETE chair and CEO. “But as the clean-energy transition accelerates transmission projects like this one that reliably deliver electricity to customers are increasingly critical. This project will improve resiliency and reliability across our region while allowing us to access some of the best carbon-free wind energy resources in the country.” Thank you to everyone, including Senator Tina Smith, Under Secretary for Infrastructure, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), David Crane, State Senator Grant Hauschild, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission Chair Katie Sieben, and Deputy Commissioner of Energy Resources, Minnesota Department of Commerce, Pete Wyckoff for their enthusiastic support and partnership. “I love you guys,” Sen. Smith told us. “You just get after it and make things happen in northern Minnesota and are a model for everyone across the country.” We appreciate that funding for this project is provided in part by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a grant from the Minnesota Department of Commerce and an appropriation from the Minnesota Legislature.
