Announcing the komoot "Get to the start line fund" 🌱 supporting 5 individuals to take part in the komoot Hiking Rally with clothing, equipment and meals. The rally is on from the 20th-22nd September in the Peak District. Walking from Edale to Marsden on the Pennine Way with a small section on the Trans Pennine Trail and finishing on a section of the Kirklees Way. The fund is for people who would otherwise find it difficult to participate in an event like this available for people that consider themselves to be from an underrepresented group and/or diverse community. 🌱 During The Outdoor Connection 2024 we caught up with Anna Jones - Inclusion, Diversity and Governance Strategic Lead for Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales (TCLW). To find out more about how TCLW is working with grassroots community organisations to make change. Anna joined us at the event sharing more about the work they do and participating in the ‘Cross Sector Collaboration’ panel. TCLW is a partnership which includes the 3 National Park Authorities and 5 National Landscapes, working together to address key shared challenges, including action on the climate change and nature emergencies. Aneela McKenna (Mòr Diversity) Joined us at The Outdoor Connection 2024 to run a session on ‘Embedding an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Culture’ during the event we sat down with Aneela to hear more about the benefits of formal EDI training for grassroots leaders. Aneela is an award-winning Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) change-maker. With a lifetime career in this field, she is founder of the Mòr Diversity Consultancy. She is also a Mountain Bike coach, guide, tutor and mentor working specifically at a grassroots level to widen participation and increase diversity in leadership. "To ask a group of strangers-cum-acquaintances to exist in silence with each other upon first meeting feels unintuitive, but we abandoned our instincts and remained open to the process, allowing ourselves to greet the forest first." In our latest blog post Evie Muir shares her experience of co-running a forest bathing 'walkshop' as part of The Summit 2024 alongside Chantelle Lindsey and Isabella McDonell. Titled “How to Become a Tree” the session offered a range of prompts to encourage deeper connection to each other and the forest around them. During The Outdoor Connection 2024 we caught up with Cath Luke, Governance and Equity Officer for Mountain Training, to hear more about how events like this are important for the work they do. Mountain Training is the network of awarding bodies for qualifications and skills courses in hill walking, climbing and mountaineering.
