We're scaling a self-guided, online, and inclusive 'Intro to AI' curriculum to high schools across the U.S.
About us
The AI Education Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that creates equitable learning experiences that excite and empower students everywhere with AI literacy. We believe that everyone—especially those who are likely to be disproportionately impacted by AI systems—should have access to the conceptual knowledge and skills they need to thrive as workers, creators, consumers, and citizens. Our Theory of Change is centered on working directly with school districts to empower educators, schools, districts, and other education organizations with accessible curricula and learning resources that make it easy for any teacher to easily integrate learning experiences that spark curiosity and excitement about AI. We seek to make AI education a part of every single students’ education, and build curricula and professional development offerings that connect AI to core subjects in addition to Computer Science and Career & Technology Education — which breaks down barriers and bottlenecks at resource-strapped school districts.

AI Isn't the Enemy for Some Schools Anymore - Flaky Startups Are “We get a lot of questions, for example, about ‘How can I use ChatGPT to grade papers?’ And the answer is: You probably shouldn’t,” said Alex Kotran, CEO of aiEDU.org. “It can be used to help teachers make their interactions with students more engaging, but it’s not the magic solution that I think frankly a lot of ed tech companies would like it to be and that they’re really sort of framing and pitching it as.” As highlighted in The Information, AI can support teachers in meaningful ways, but it’s crucial to proceed cautiously, especially with fledgling edtech startups. Moreover, AI tools should help foster better student engagement rather than replace the important, human aspects of teaching. Thoughtful integration is key to ensuring AI enhances education rather than oversimplifies it. I really appreciate all the contributors to this article for recognizing the importance of quality and careful integration of AI into classroom. Needless to say, this approach is core to aiEDU.org's philosophy and mission! #AIinEducation #EdTech #AIEthics #K12 #AIliteracy

On Monday I took a flight from Honolulu to Little Rock to deliver the keynote presentation for the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators annual conference. Funny/awesome that my largest live audience for a talk to date is now ARKANSAS—with more than 1,200 K12 system leaders in the room. Huge thanks to Dr. Hernandez and Lennett for their gracious invitation and for elevating AI Readiness 🙏

When I joined aiEDU.org as the Ohio Regional Director in late 2023 for their partnership across Ohio with Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) and Montgomery County Educational Service Center, I had no idea where this journey would take me and the impact it would have not just across the state of Ohio, but the potential impact this statewide collaboration could have on state service agencies nationwide to increase AI literacy and build collaborative blueprints for success. Today was truly an honor to present "Empowering AI Champions: A Collaborative Blueprint for Statewide AI Literacy and Readiness" alongside Craig E. Burford, Shannon Cox, and Candice Sears to service agency leaders from across the nation at the AESA Summer Leadership Convening on how they can also bring some of the best practices that Ohio is leading in AI literacy and innovation for student outcomes and education to equip the next generation of Ohio's workforce. This journey has taken me to Ohio five times for AI Summits and to present to Lt. Governor Jon Husted’s Ohio Artificial Intelligence Education Coalition. I have learned so much from so many incredible leaders in education and artificial intelligence, and I have listened and learned from educators and students across Ohio. I want to sincerely thank the leadership of aiEDU, particularly Alex Kotran and Christian Pinedo, for providing me with this opportunity; Craig E. Burford for his statewide leadership and guidance; Shannon Cox and Candice Sears for being true leaders in innovation out of MCESC; and the incredible ESC Leads Christine Danhoff, Paula Kucinic, and Dr. Wendy Hanasky, for leveraging their regional expertise to create incredible AI Summits across Ohio. I can't wait for our final AI Summit of the year on August 13th in Cambridge, Ohio, and I am excited for what the future holds to continue to scale this initiative to further support Ohio education leaders, educators, and students.
