🌱 AI2EAR: Exciting Update 🌱 . On January 25th, our AI2EAR members participated in the Nagoya University Tech Roundtable - Sustainable AgBioTech! The event, which was organized by a valued network member of AI2EAR and affiliated with Nagoya University- Japan, was a great chance to learn about the latest research and to collaborate. . The Technology Roundtable Series highlighted research technologies with great commercial potential from NU and other participating universities. In addition, it was a place to strengthen the links between university and industry researchers, startups, and business development professionals from major and local companies. . We were honored to have esteemed speakers from the AI2EAR network of networks contribute to the discussions: Dr. Anna Locke (FFAR network) - Field- and AI-based approaches to improve soybean temperature stress tolerance Dr. Satoshi Okada (NU Tech network) - The mechanism of heterosis in high-biomass sorghum and its application to breeding Dr. Yusuke Aihara (NU Tech network) - Conferring drought tolerance on plants by isothiocyanate-based inhibitors on stomatal opening . These experts brought invaluable insights and perspectives, enriching the dialogue on sustainable AgBioTech. Last week, we had the pleasure of receiving a group of students from Nagoya University visiting the Plant Sciences Building at North Carolina State University! . The Program Manager for Education and Extension Outreach of the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative, Ms. Sarah Dinger provided a tour to them and loved to meet the students and hear their insights about Japanese agriculture. . During their visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Ross Sozzani, lead PI of AI2EAR, and even enjoyed a friendly game of table tennis. We are happy to share the recently published manuscript authored by members of AI2EAR in The Plant Cell Journal. . Titled “The Black American experience: Answering the global challenge of broadening participation in STEM/agriculture” the manuscript sheds light on the historical challenges faced by Black scientists in agriculture and plant science. . The paper highlights the perspectives of the international community on the need to broaden participation in STEM and agriculture. Finally, we emphasize that programs like AI2EAR, which includes programming designed to support underrepresented minorities, can catalyze the creation of a more diverse and inclusive future in STEM and agriculture. .
