Performing leak testing on flexible endoscopes is essential for preventing costly damage and ensuring patient safety. But what exactly is leak testing and why is it so important? Leak testing is the most efficient and cost-effective method for detecting breaches in the protective surfaces of flexible endoscopes. These breaches can lead to fluid invasion and significantly increase the risk of cross-contamination for patients. Even a tiny hole in the waterproof covering can make the entire scope vulnerable to damage. What should you do if a flexible endoscope fails a leak test? If a leak test shows that your flex scope is compromised, it is no longer safe for patient use and should be sent out for repair after being cleaned.
