Hurricane Helene hit the U.S. last week, killing hundreds of people and causing massive destruction across the Southeast. Our analysts examined media coverage of the storm and its aftermath in our Topic of the Week. Articles from the CNN website and the New York Post were found to be the most balanced and reliable. Both articles received a bias score of 0 and a reliability score in the "mix of fact reporting and analysis or simple fact reporting" section of the Media Bias Chart. An article from New Republic and a video from The Majority Report with Sam Seder were both found to have a "strong left" bias and a reliability score in the "analysis or other issues" range. The New Republic article, for example, is focused on analyzing hurricane reporting by Fox News. Reporting on "The Ingraham Angle" on Fox News Channel had a "strong right" bias and was found to have opinions that favored former President Trump. An article from RedState had a similar bias score but was rated lower for reliability because it was found to be misleading and unfair. https://lnkd.in/gMhbQDUe

Music producer Sean "Diddy" Combs was arrested Sept. 16 and charged with federal racketeering and sex trafficking. Our team analyzed six articles and videos about the arrest for our Topic of the Week. Four items from our content set were found to have balanced coverage, with no bias detected. Two of them — articles from the BBC and from the NewsNation website — also received high reliability scores that put them in the "mix of fact reporting and analysis or simple fact reporting" category. Content from Salon and TYT: The Young Turks, however, received much lower reliability scores. The video from The Young Turks received a score in the "analysis or other issues" range. The Salon article was placed in the "opinion or other issues" section. The lowest scores came from an article from The Blaze and an episode of The Benny Show podcast. Reporting from The Blaze received a "strong right" bias score and a reliability rating in the "selective or incomplete/unfair persuasion/propaganda" category. The Benny Show also received a "strong right" bias rating, but its content was found to contain inaccurate or fabricated information, placing it at the bottom of the Media Bias Chart. https://lnkd.in/eYgqqjxi

Last week Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was stopped by police for speeding. The incident ended with Hill being pulled from his car and handcuffed, and one of the officers involved was placed on administrative duties. Our team analyzed six articles about the traffic stop in our Topic of the Week. Coverage from PBS and NBC 6 South Florida WTVJ had the most balanced and reliable reporting from our article set. Both articles fell into the "middle/balanced" category of bias and "mix of fact reporting and analysis or simple fact reporting" category of reliability. Articles from Vox and NewsOne displayed a "strong left" bias and a reliability rating of "analysis or other issues." The most unreliable reporting came from The Blaze and RedState. The Blaze article was found to be "selective/incomplete, unfair persuasion or propaganda." Coverage from RedState was found to "contain misleading info." The original article published in RedState said that Hill was driving over 100 mph. Later this was corrected to say he was clocked at 60 mph; however, references to Hill's excessive speed remained in the revised story, as did a reference to "100 mph" in the article's url. These misleading facts led to the article's low reliability rating. Both The Blaze and RedState articles had bias scores in the "hyper-partisan right" category. Do you agree with our analysts' ratings? You can read the six articles examined by our team on the Topic of the Week page on the website.

Eight podcasts are included on the chart this month for the first time: - 1 big thing - In the Thick - Jason In The House – The Jason Chaffetz Podcast - Judging Freedom with Judge Andrew Napolitano - Rick Wilson’s The Enemies List - Scamala: Kamala Harris Unmasked - The Dose - The Jordan Harbinger Show Ad Fontes Media has released its most recent Media Bias Chart® for podcasts. The September chart features 50 podcasts, eight of them for the first time. Our analyst team has now listened to more than 2,900 episodes from more than 740 podcasts to help savvy media consumers choose reliable sources of audio news. It’s impossible to include all 740 rated shows in one image, so a sample of 50 podcasts are featured on this month’s static media bias chart (see the list of 50 here). And in order to make the logos as large and readable as possible, we have magnified a portion of the chart and removed portions around the edges that contain no sources. If your favorite podcasts aren’t on the September chart, you can still search for them using the Interactive Media Bias Chart® on our website, as well as our Media Bias Chart® app, available for iPhone and Android. Daily search limits apply. When you add in our web/print and TV/video ratings, our analysts have fully rated over 4,100 sources, with commercial data on over 11,100 sources. Become a subscriber today to have additional access to our data set! Our News Nerd Pro subscription allows you to search all 4,100 sources with no limits! In addition, you’ll have the ability to filter the search results for things like ownership, content keywords, and more. https://lnkd.in/gAzzk5iw
