Weekly subscription market is now over 55% Weekly subscriptions dominate. Market share surged from 36.8% in 2022 to over 55% in 2024. Léa Samrani, Product & Growth Advisor for subscription apps, shares her insights: "Longer durations typically have lower churn and higher LTV. So why the rise of weekly plans? Trial alternative: They offer a low-commitment way for users to try a product, replacing 7-day free trials while still generating revenue. Price framing: A higher weekly price makes the monthly plan seem more cost-effective and more attractive. Commitment issues: The weekly plan can convert users who might not commit to longer subscriptions, providing a flexible option based on user behavior. The US dominates in-app subscription market Did you know that the US holds 50.5% of the global in-app subscription market? That's half of all sales worldwide. Here’s an insight from industry expert Marcus Burke, Meta ads consultant for apps: "The US is a special beast: 58.81% of US users are on iOS and most of the revenue is. With SKAN, the entry barrier has risen: When CPIs are high and privacy thresholds can’t be met, ad platforms have little signal to work with. To crack the market: think in country-tiers, test creatives in other geos, and consider web2app and AEM in addition to SKAN." 3 principles to live by to increase paywall conversion At #AdaptyConf, Nathan Hudson 🚀 shared his insights on turning your paywall into a value engine. Let's break it down: 1. Communicate the value of your app as clearly and concisely as possible. Avoid generic headlines like "Go premium" or "Choose your plan". Instead, highlight the main benefit. 2. Context is key. Integrate your paywall within the app's flow. Tailor the design to where the user is in their journey. Avoid overwhelming users with too many features like long lists. However, sometimes feature lists are ideal for apps with no onboarding journey, functional apps, or low-cost apps. 3. Leave no stone unturned. Answer the questions that hold users back from subscribing. Making a big promise is step one. Persuading them you can deliver drives conversion, even before the trial starts. Potential worries: 1) Price in relation to the size of the problem → offer first-time discounts or limited freemium usage with a clear savings display. Showing the price on the purchase button can reduce conversion. 2) Price in relation to the quality of your product → a seamless, beautiful experience makes users more willing to pay. 3) The belief that user's circumstances are different → show users they aren’t unique in their needs through reviews. 4) The concern that you'll bill them before they can cancel → assure users they won't be billed before they can cancel. Bonus principle: ditch the playbook. Test new ideas that others haven't tried. Building a compelling paywall isn't just about design; it's about clear communication, contextual integration, and experiments.
