  • Congratulations to Northglenn High School’s very own Kent Hups, for being announced as one of the recipients for the 2024 K-12 Earth Science Teacher of the Year Award by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists (RMAG). Hups previously won the award in 2015, and we are excited for him to receive this honor again. Hups, a Geology and Biology teacher at Northglenn High School with over 20 years of experience, engages with students by using real-world projects and inquiry-based learning to teach them about the rock cycle, tectonics, earthquakes, fossils and structural geology.  As part of this award by the RMAG Foundation, Hups will receive $2,000 to further his professional development and Northglenn High School will receive $2,000 to support their earth science programs. Hups plans to use award funds to invest in Virtual Reality devices to allow students to “visit” geological sites around the state and “see” the rocks that these sites provide. These devices combined with his incorporation of field trips, interactive labs, and collaborative projects with local geologists will continue to make geology exciting and available to students. Mr. Hups is a volunteer Research Associate with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and spends time in the summers on dinosaur dig sites with museum staff. He was recognized at the RMAG Luncheon Meeting on August 7 at the Denver Energy Resource Library and was provided a one-year membership to RMAG, funded by the RMAG Foundation. #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

  • On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education approved the placement of an $830 million bond and a $34.5 million mill levy override on the November ballot.  “Adams 12 Five Star Schools places great emphasis on career readiness,” Superintendent Chris Gdowski said. “We have the highest percentage ever of students earning scores worth college credit on Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and our students earned nearly 3,000 industry certifications last year in specialty areas like business, health sciences and the skilled trades. These funding proposals allow us to build upon these successes through investing in the people, programming and facilities that allow our students to thrive. They are a smart and sound investment in our economy, and the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs and caretakers.”  #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

  • Congratulations to Northglenn High School Flag Football Coach Lex Gutierrez for making history! Last week, Gutierrez was named Denver Broncos Flag Football Coach of the Week after coaching at the first-ever Colorado High School Activities Association's (CHSAA) sanctioned girls flag football game on Saturday, August 17. This game started the season for girls flag football after CHSAA voted in April to become the 11th state to sanction girls flag football at the high school level. Five Star Stadium in Thornton was host to Northglenn High School and Thornton High School on that historic Saturday. Gutierrez and his team of trendsetters came away with the victory! This monumental season is being recognized by The Denver Broncos, who were avid supporters and advocates for the sport to the CHSAA. Gutierrez was named the first Denver Broncos Flag Football Coach of the Week, and throughout the season, there will be 10 additional coaches honored each week. A final celebration where all coaches will be honored at halftime of a Broncos game later this season. #ELEVATESuccess #fivestarproud Photo by Shenae Armstrong.
