Today I had the opportunity to represent ActiveCross and speak to the Brazilian Co-op Delegation on biologically-based crop protection inputs and their importance for agriculture. The event was sponsored by UPL and organized by NCSU Plant Sciences. Daniel Pepitone, COO Harpe and Mikael Courbot, CTO Micropep, also spoke on their company’s latest bio-based technologies.

Synthetic biology is not only amazing for what it can achieve but also incredibly complex. One must thoroughly understand a genome, the functions of the genes, and how these genes interact before purposeful gene edits can be made. Synthetic biology has disrupted decades-old chemical, agricultural, and medical products and services, producing a new bioeconomy. We are glad our products have employed this technology for a more sustainable future (Figure reference: Tang et al. 2021. Nature Reviews Materials, 6(4), pp.332-350.)
