November marks #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, an opportunity to celebrate the culture, traditions, and lives of American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities. We also commemorate the accomplishments and contributions of Indigenous and Native people that have enriched our history and culture. We know that cancer affects everyone, but it doesn’t affect everyone equally. Cancer disparities for Indigenous and Native people largely reflect long-standing systemic racism that has resulted in limited access to quality care, including cancer screenings. Everyone deserves a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. Through our advocacy, we’re working to eliminate these disparities, advance health equity, and amplify the voices of our Indigenous and Native volunteers. Thank you for all that you do in the fight against cancer.

About us
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) advocates for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone. We engage our volunteers across the country to make their voices heard by policymakers at every level of government. We believe everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. Since 2001, as the American Cancer Society’s nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate, ACS CAN has successfully advocated for billions of dollars in cancer research funding, expanded access to quality affordable health care, and advanced proven tobacco control measures. We stand with our volunteers—people whose lives have been impacted by cancer—rallying to demand change. Together, we’re working to make cancer a top priority for public officials and candidates at the federal, state, and local levels. By engaging advocates across the country to make their voices heard, ACS CAN influences legislative and regulatory solutions that will end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Black women are 40% more likely to die of breast cancer than White women. Although #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth is coming to an end, our work to address cancer disparities in the Black community and improve health outcomes continues. That’s why VOICES of Black Women is so important—it's a pivotal long-term study to better understand how and why health conditions like cancer disproportionately affect Black women. Your voice today can change our collective future forever. Check your eligibility and join today at voices.cancer.org.

More than 38,000 advocates have already signed a petition urging Congress to increase cancer research funding in this year’s spending bill. Research is one of the best ways to get us closer to ending cancer as we know it, for everyone. We're getting ready to deliver these petitions to decision-makers shortly after Election Day. But first, we need to get more people to sign the petition to have the greatest impact. Will you help us reach 45,000 signatures by signing the petition right now? Thank you for making your voice heard and spreading the word!

#HispanicHeritageMonth is an opportunity to highlight the ACSí Se Puede Hispanic/Latino Advocacy Alliance, one of ACS CAN’s six volunteer affinity groups! This incredible group of volunteers is consistently working to reduce cancer disparities in their communities. As part of their efforts, the affinity group continuously advocates for more materials and resources to be created in Spanish to support inclusion. Many members have also helped us reach a wider audience by completing media interviews in Spanish. And this #CancerLobbyDay, some affinity group members even held their lawmaker meetings in Spanish! Last year, ACSí Se Puede hosted an important webinar that highlighted the importance of cancer research and clinical trials in Hispanic/Latino communities. This year, they are collaborating with the other five affinity groups to host an event for #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth on the various disparities that exist in each of their respective communities. We’re so proud of the amazing work this affinity group is doing to help end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Learn more about the group: https://lnkd.in/e9BmpZUF
