Last week, ACM UTD Media secured themselves the “Audience Choice Award” at the Meteor Theater’s Cosmic Film Festival with the short film “Untitled_1,” a mockumentary about a film crew rushing to get their semestral documentary finished after procrastinating on it the whole time. We thank all our amazing actors, Media officers, ACM friends, and everyone who spent the time to participate, watch, and vote for our short film. This wouldn’t have been possible without your thoughtfulness, commitment, and incredible effort. This project is another of ACM UTD Media’s steppingstones on the road to creating more content that portrays and elevates our amazing community and we are so excited to show you more of what we have in store! Initially ours from pre to postproduction, now finally yours. Watch our short film on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/g6vKepuR

This past Spring semester, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in ACM Projects! 🌟 I worked alongside my exceptionally talented teammates to create Expert Events, a campus event management app for students and organizations, streamlining event promotion and enhancing engagement. Our app incorporates a multitude of features including a messaging and notification feature for user connectivity, an AI ChatBot for users that simplifies access to event details, and an OCR (optical character recognition) feature to effectively scan and post events directly from posters on campus. Throughout the creation of our app, I was able to familiarize myself with multiple tools and frameworks I hadn’t used prior, such as Flutter, Firebase, and Dart. 💻 As part of the backend team, I implemented a robust user authentication system, set up and optimized the database model and operations, and worked on integration with the frontend team for functionality within our features, including our messaging feature, notification system, and main feed page. Under the guidance of our project manager Nadeeba Atiqui and our industry mentor Samuel Stegall, I gained newfound knowledge through their valuable advice and mentorship which enhanced our app and my personal skill set. At the end of our journey, we showcased ExpertEvents to an audience and panel of judges at ACM Projects’ Presentation Night. I want to extend a huge thank you to ACM UTD and the ACM Projects co-directors Karina Batra and David Tepeneu for this unique opportunity that allowed me to gain invaluable industry level skills and create remarkable friendships with great people. I am incredibly proud of my team for what we were able to accomplish and I am left excited to venture onto new challenges and opportunities in the future!

Discover the joy of shopping locally with Market Maven!🌱 I am thrilled to share the culmination of our efforts with the ACM UTD this semester! Over the past ten weeks, I've had the privilege to embark on an inspiring journey alongside a dedicated team of four students. Our mission? To create Market Maven, a virtual farmers market website connecting users with local farmers and artisans. Leveraging React and Tailwind CSS, we made a platform that fosters community connection and celebrates the vibrant essence of local commerce. As a front-end developer, I utilized React.js and Figma to bring our vision to life, ensuring every pixel reflected our passion for creating an immersive and visually captivating experience. But behind every line of code and every pixel perfected stood two extraordinary individuals—our project manager, Clara Conner, and industry mentor, Linh Ly. Clara's unwavering guidance and leadership were the bedrock of our success. Her ability to steer the ship amidst challenges and her relentless dedication to our team's growth were remarkable. Linh, our industry mentor, brought invaluable insights and expertise, guiding us through intricate technicalities and industry best practices. With the valuable contributions and unique insights from Sachi Hansalia (front-end), Lerich Osay, and Alveena Rehman (back-end), we strived for passion, excellence, and unity with a shared vision. Through this journey, I honed my technical skills and profoundly appreciated the power of teamwork, effective communication, and adept project management. Heartfelt thanks to the ACM Projects Co-directors, David Tepeneu and Karina Batra, for making our ACM experience unforgettable and providing the platform for this transformative experience. We are truly grateful for everything you've done to make this journey enjoyable. And to Clara and Linh, your guidance was invaluable and the cornerstone of our success. On behalf of myself and the entire team, I am expressing our sincere gratitude for your unwavering support and commitment to our success. Here's to the joy of shopping locally and the remarkable individuals who make it all possible! #MarketMaven #ACMProjects #FrontendDevelopment #acm #utdallas #utd #react #frontend #teamwork #webdevelopment #projects

After 10 weeks of planning, development, and integration, I'm proud to announce my team achieving the 1st Place Award at ACM UTD's Projects Presentation night. Under the firm leadership of our Project Manager Syed Mohammad Abis Naqvi, the four of us: Maruthi Eranki, Shraddha Subash, Ethan Varghese, and myself, spent the last 10 weeks working on SAGE — the Student Advising and Guidance Engine, not just with the goal of winning, but with a focus on longevity. The fundamental idea behind SAGE is to make the advising process easier for students, consequentially lightening the load on advisors as well. The main tools currently included are a chatbot, which can answer questions based on information webscraped from UTD sites, and a Degree Plan Generator, which formulates a timeline with recommended courses for a student to take in their upcoming semesters. We used various Amazon Web Services (AWS) tools, LangChain, Auth0 by Okta, React, and more to incorporate these features onto a welcoming user interface. I personally worked primarily with the cloud services provided by Amazon, using the AWS CLI as well as the AWS SDK v3 to interact with S3, Textract, and DynamoDB (as well as the Simple Notification Service and Simple Queue Service). These tools are the stable backbone of SAGE, enabling students to simply upload their university transcripts. From there, SAGE analyzes the documents, extracts course data, and stores it to offer students personalized advice in the forms of the chatbot and the degree plan. That all being said, the most exciting aspect of the project is that it's not over. Our team is moving forward to grow and continue developing SAGE. We plan to launch the app for use in the upcoming semester. I'm extremely grateful to have worked on a team of some of the most talented people I've met to date, and I can't wait to show my fellow students what SAGE has to offer them. Thank you to the judges at Presentation night for this award, to Suraj Khosla for your mentorship throughout the project, and to the Co-Directors, Karina Batra and David Tepeneu, for organizing this excellent semester of ACM Projects. It's a new age with SAGE!
