Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management (OGSM) needed a modern, consolidated space to call their own, having occupied two separate buildings (with poor acoustics) for many years. Acentech conducted a thorough pre-construction study to understand previous issues, and collaborated with architect William Rawn Associates, Architects, Inc. to design improved spaces. Our acousticians created a 3Dlistening® simulation of the multi-purpose room in order to help the design team and university stakeholders listen and decide together how robust the exterior glazing system needed to be to adequately protect events from disruption by ambulance and other traffic sounds outside, and to validate the interior acoustical design of the room. Our team also performed a study for construction noise and vibration—as construction needed to happen during the academic year—to understand impacts to the OGSM and the wider campus community.

Congrats to our friends at Elkus Manfredi and the entire design team! Acentech was pleased to contribute our acoustics and vibration expertise to this stunning campus transformation!
Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus was featured in Metropolis Magazine! We were the master planners for this 12-acre campus and provided the architectural renovation of all of its historic buildings, as well as the 970-car parking structure. “Children’s National set out to build a research ecosystem and clinical spaces to address some of the most challenging cases in pediatrics, which often come through the Rare Disease Institute and are studied at the Center for Genetic Medicine Research,” says Irene Thompson, executive director, real estate and capital planning, for Children's National Hospital. “We also wanted the campus to be a welcome space for members of the community to be seen in our primary care clinic.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/3zt2xNS #ElkusManfrediProject w/Array Architects, mikyoung kim design, Suffolk Construction, McNamara • Salvia, Structural Engineers, VHB, BR+A Consulting Engineers, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH), EHT Traceries Inc, Jacobs, Jensen Hughes, Vermeulens, RWDI and Van Deusen and Associates. #architecture #adaptiveresue #researchanddevelopment #innovation Photo credit: Halkin Mason

We had the pleasure of hosting six amazing interns this summer at our Cambridge and Philadelphia offices! Each engaged in acoustics and sound engineering research - from 3DListening® auralizations to investigate the influence of fiberglass, wood slats, and reflector panels on acoustic response and evaluating Treble software for acoustics best practices - to pickleball noise studies and recording sounds for our source library. We wish them great success in their educational pursuits! Pictured, from left to right: Milena Jonas Bem is pursuing a PhD in Architectural Science with a concentration in Acoustics from RPI. She earned a Master in Architectural Science with a concentration in Acoustics from RPI and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urbanism from the State University of Maringa (UEM). Danté Christian is a rising senior at Pomona College studying Physics and an accomplished performer. He connected to Acentech through the Acoustical Society of America SURIEA program. Geri Tabbachino is a rising senior at Tufts University studying Mechanical Engineering. She has a rich background in architectural acoustics, music engineering, music instrument design, modeling technology and programming languages. Nicolas Adler is pursuing a Master of Science in Music Engineering from the University of Miami. He has a background in digital signal processing, and several programming languages. Liz Tuinstra is pursuing a Master of Arts in Acoustical Studies at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from RPI. Liz Meier (not in photo) is a rising junior at the Berklee College of Music studying music production and engineering. She has a background in architectural acoustics, and musical performance, and completed an independent study on practice room acoustics at Acentech in 2023. #summerinterns #acoustics #noisecontrol
