Accounting for Impact
Accounting
The Network fosters engagement and impact for accounting scholars.
About us
The Network fosters engagement and impact for accounting scholars. We aim to inspire academics of all levels of experience and areas of expertise to reach outside the academic ivory tower to make a positive impact and for a better society. The Network intends to be inclusive and foster a variety of perspectives and methodological approaches. It encourages accounting academics of all backgrounds, levels of experience and geographical locations to join the Network and use this space as a catalyst for reflecting upon which constituencies might benefit from their work. The answer will be different for each researcher. The goal is to help accounting academics develop the critical skills necessary to make this outreach possible. The purpose of this initiative is to provide academics with the tools to turn their research into action. This will include activities like (but not limited to) providing training for accounting scholars on how to engage in knowledge mobilization and research communication, organizing events that bring together researchers and practitioners to identify practice-driven research questions and developing resources engage practitioners and policy makers with research findings. Regardless of the venue or approach, our primary aim is to provide opportunities for academics to create impact through their research. https://www.accountingforimpact.org/ The network is financially supported by CPA Ontario.

Is #impact’s scope #expandable? This paper shows how it is by broadening Boyer's theorisation of scholarship through the Context, Intervention, Mechanism, and Outcomes (#CIMO) #framework. As such, academics can themselves increase their research’s impact by teaching practitioners. https://lnkd.in/d4Qs86MY Charles H. Last Friday’s Accounting for Impact #Summit on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Indigeneity (#DEII) 👇🏼
Professor of Sustainability Accounting and Erivan K. Haub Chair in Business & Sustainability. Trilingual #français🇫🇷 #english🇨🇦 #한국어🇰🇷
When I co-founded Accounting for Impact with Erica Pimentel PhD, CPA, CA a few years ago, the mission of our Network was crystal clear: "to inspire academics […] to reach outside the academic ivory tower to make a #positive #impact and for a #better #society” and that “the Network intends to be #inclusive and foster a variety of perspectives and methodological approaches. It encourages accounting academics of #all backgrounds, levels of experience and geographical locations to join the Network and use this space as a catalyst for reflecting upon which constituencies might benefit from their work.” We also formed an amazing team with members Dr. Leanne Keddie Joel Bothello, Julie Bernard, Alessandro Ghio and European ambassador Dr. Blerita Korca ! Last week ended on a high note – the Accounting for Impact #Summit on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Indigeneity (#DEII) (https://lnkd.in/gumBgVEX), in collaboration with CPA Ontario, took place last Friday at the beautiful Smith School of Business at Queen's University's #Toronto campus, with inspiring opening remarks from (our 😊) Schulich School of Business - York University Dean Detlev Zwick -- and I think we can objectively say it was a big #success overall. With close to 100 participants ranging from practitioners, industry leaders, and academics, we all delved into crucial topics to answer big questions in today's accounting (and beyond) landscape and the impact on #diverse communities. Thanks to our wonderful #keynote speaker Dr. Oliver Nnamdi Okafor (who called for the need to integrate more immigrants into the accounting profession) and our amazing #panelists Tammy Brown, FCPA, FCA, Waylon Iserhoff and Melanie Assiniwe, CPA, CA (who candidly shared their personal experiences and insights on #Indigenizing accounting education & practice), and our two hands-on #workshops, we learned how to effect organizational transformation around the pillars of #DEII by becoming #allies, #activists and #changemakers – and how we could #reimagine the profession to become one that is inclusive & attractive to all. We are so grateful for the support provided by CPA Ontario from day one (thanks Leonie Phillips!) and special thanks to Jennifer Reynolds, CPA, CA and Meghan Hachey for carrying it on to make all of this possible. We look forward to more collaborations in the future, and we do intend to create a #community with all event participants (watch for it!) so that we can draw from our learnings last Friday, join forces and make #positive #changes & lasting #impact! Last Friday, Accounting for Impact held a #Summit with CPA Ontario on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Indigeneity (#DEII) (https://lnkd.in/gumBgVEX) at Smith School of Business at Queen's University's #Toronto campus. The event was a huge success with nearly 100 participants and with both an amazing #keynote speaker Dr. Oliver Nnamdi Okafor as well as #panelists Tammy Brown, FCPA, FCA, Waylon Iserhoff, and Melanie Assiniwe, CPA, CA. We were very happy to also have this event opened by Schulich School of Business - York University Dean Detlev Zwick’s very inspirational opening comments. We hope to have provided through both workshops, ideas or ground for reflection on how the #accounting profession could be #re-#invented to become inclusive and accessible to all as much as how becoming #allies, #activists, and #changemakers could affect organizational transformation around the pillars of #DEII. Very thankful for all the support received, both from CPA Ontario (particularly Leonie Phillips!) and from Jennifer Reynolds, CPA, CA, and Meghan Hachey for making this #Summit come to life. We in the Accounting for Impact team; Charles H. Cho, PhD, CPA, Erica Pimentel PhD, CPA, CA, Dr. Leanne Keddie, Joel Bothello, Alessandro Ghio, Julie Bernard as well as Dr. Blerita Korca (our European ambassador); look forward to future collaborations to keep pursuing the creation of #positive #change and strong #impact by continuing to develop this #accounting #community with participants from across all our previous events!
