Last Thursday, our affiliate, Safe Point Lighthouse in Dunkirk, hosted an Overdose Awareness Day event. The staff set up station outside and inside of the facility to pass out harm reduction supplies, coffee and snacks, as well as giving the participants an opportunity to write on posters the names of friends and family that have passed as a way to remember them. Acacia Network and its affiliates are proud of our staff, clients, and families who work everyday to overcome addiction, support those in need of recovery and save lives. #recoveryispossible #IOAD2024 #TogetherWeCan #EndOverdoseNow

As we prepare to celebrate International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) on August 31st, here's a throwback to a video we produced, which highlights the life-saving work of our frontline heroes, who play critical roles in preventing and reversing potential overdoses. https://lnkd.in/eH5pHqzU #TogetherWeCan #IOAD2024 #EndOverdose #tbt

According to the NYC Department Health and Mental Hygiene, overdose deaths rose 12% among New York City residents from 2021 to 2022, with residents of the Bronx experiencing the highest rate of overdose deaths. Fentanyl was detected in 81% of New York City overdose deaths. This year, Acacia Network launched the Bronx’s first Mobile Medication Unit, which aims to help address the borough’s opioid and overdose crises. Thank you to the New York Times and reporter Sharon Otterman for this thoughtful piece on the opioid crisis, the role that mobile medication units (MMUs) play within the ecosystem of treatment modalities, and how Acacia Network’s newly launched MMU is bringing healing on wheels to the Bronx. Special thank you to the NYS Office of Addiction Services & Supports, whose support and partnership enables us to carry out our life-saving work! https://lnkd.in/eT83mzz2

    Food for thought!

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Acacia Network

The Times Union published a piece about addressing opioid use in NYS, which mentioned one of our upstate outpatient treatment facilities, Camino Nuevo (https://lnkd.in/e6wr6Fpv). Proud to share my Letter to the Editor, published this week. Today more than ever, our services and wraparound supports are vital to helping people regain independence and greater wellbeing as they navigate the challenges of substance use. Sadly, providers like us and the individuals who suffer from SUD continue to face incredible barriers and stigma. Let's be part of the solution together!
