Reports of the warmest year have sparked fears climate change is accelerating faster than expected. It doesn't help that leaders in the Middle East — where a new heat record was reported in Algeria — continue to take a business-as-usual approach with fossil fuels. “What we see is that the most wealthy countries in that region, like Saudi Arabia or the UAE, are the ones who expand their fossil fuel production and their fossil fuel exports," says Andreas Sieber, 350 associate director of policy and campaigns. We believe every tenth of a degree in temperature rise matters. It's critical we take action to cut emissions now. https://lnkd.in/gm7wj5T6

We're an international movement of ordinary people working to end the fossil fuel era and build a better future for all.
About us
350.org works on grassroots campaigns across the globe, leveraging people power — individuals working together in pursuit of a common goal — to dismantle the influence and infrastructure of the fossil fuel industry and to power up clean systems rooted in justice. To build a more sustainable and just future, we collaborate with communities at the frontline of the climate crisis, those who have historically contributed the least emissions but are feeling the worst effects. We campaign and organise to show the world we really want, in pursuit of energy justice and distributed renewable energy solutions that will move us away from fossil fuels, for good. Over the past 15 years, we have mobilised with people around the world to confront injustice and challenge our fossil-fuelled economic systems. Together, we have achieved extraordinary things, from getting millions of people onto the streets worldwide, to moving trillions of dollars away from the fossil fuel industry, to stopping dirty coal, oil and fossil gas plants and pipelines. We take on ambitious fights – and we often win!

A lot happened in 2024. Across Europe and the U.S. more right-wing parties hold government. But while these outcome signals a setback for the climate, we are reminded of the immense power of collective action. Here are 3 ways we're taking action this year👇
In 2025 the world will be… what we make it!

The U.S. federal government announced its 2035 climate target or Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC): to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60-61% below 2005 levels. This is insufficient to stay under 1.5°C & prevent climate chaos. 350 reacts: https://lnkd.in/d2ivpxdv

“My life as a climate activist is deeply intertwined with my personal experiences as a foreigner, growing up in a refugee camp.” This #InternationalMigrantsDay, read Ayoo Irene Hellen of Refugees International’s story of her family’s displacement, her experience of climate impacts and her climate action. #COP29 in Baku left a bitter taste: vulnerable nations were cornered into accepting a weak deal, underscoring the stark imbalance in global power. The agreed climate finance goal is merely a token, far from what’s needed to help nations adapt, transition to renewables, and confront the escalating climate crisis. But COPs don’t define our future. All eyes now turn to Brazil, the host of COP30, with the chance to drive ambitious climate action. Let’s demand the bold leadership the world craves! https://lnkd.in/g8X3DCUs #climateaction #OurPower #FundOurFuture #climatefinance #climatecrisis

On November 11, COP29 begins in Baku, Azerbaijan. Over the following two weeks, countries will negotiate a critical new climate finance goal, as well as their individual plans and commitments to address the climate crisis and keep global heating below 1.5C per the Paris Agreement. 350.org has two key demands for COP29, widely dubbed the “finance” COP: 1. Countries pledge at least $1 trillion in grants to the new climate finance goal, or New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG). The financial, climate and social needs of the Global South should inform where this money comes from and how it’s delivered and spent. 2. Countries make ambitious national commitments, or Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), that are in line with fairly tripling renewable energy capacity and phasing out fossil fuels by 2030. Climate action depends on fair, equitable finance. That’s why our delegation of climate advocates, activists and policy analysts will be on-site to follow the negotiations and keep a finger on the pulse of the “finance” COP. Social media is a scary place to be right now. One way to take care of yourself might be to get some space from it altogether — but if you’re here and trying to stop yourself from doom scrolling, we wanted to offer a brief but meaningful alternative. We’ve started gathering stories from people who are creating the world we all deserve, a world that centers hope, climate justice and community care. The U.S. election has been called and Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States. 350.org acknowledges the outcome of the democratic process but we’re also concerned that this result could set back the rights of many communities, colleagues, partners and allies in the U.S., result in violations of marginalized people and produce a more dangerous, isolationist nation. In that darkness, our faith must remain in each other, our climate movement and in multilateralism: other nations can step up to lead where the U.S. falls short. Many already are. Trump isn’t in office yet, and there are still things Joe Biden can achieve before January 2025. But meanwhile, to everyone feeling hurt and scared, we see you and we stand beside you.
