“My childhood was marked by the challenge of balancing two identities, feeling at home in neither place fully.” That’s how community member Pierre Chami describes growing up with 2hearts. Caught between cultures, Pierre faced the typical challenges that come with a migration background. 💬 I came from Syria with my family, seeking safety and a better future. Raised in Germany, I often felt like an outsider, struggling to adapt to a new culture and language. Summers spent in Syria were a reminder of my roots, filled with both joy and a sense of disconnection. School was particularly tough, as I faced discrimination and isolation from my peers, until I finally found like-minded friends in Oberstufe. Despite these hardships, I found strength in my heritage and resilience. Pierre also represents the many talented people in this community, shaping the tech scene with their talents, dedication, and eventful biographies. 💬 My passion for technology began in high school, where I developed a strong interest in computer science. My professional journey has been diverse, including roles at AWS, JP Morgan, and Bain, where I focused extensively on digital transformation and innovative solutions. This mission involves building a talented investor community, attracting exceptional migrant founders, and actively investing in overlooked high-potential ventures. The data speaks volumes: 💡 70% of unicorns in the US and UK have founders who are immigrants, women, or people of color. 💡 In Germany, 60% of unicorns include migrant founders. 💡 Interestingly, migrant founders are also often more ambitious and resilient than their non-migrant peers. 💡 However, it remains relatively more challenging for migrants to become founders and secure funding.
