One of the causes of dangerous battery fires is the growth of small, needle-like structures within the battery called dendrites. How do dendrites form — and how can we prevent them? Learn more from the 24M team about the dangers of dendrites and how innovations like Impervio™ are making batteries safer:

"Electric vehicle battery fires are nothing to mess with. Even though they’re statistically less likely to happen compared to combustion-powered vehicles, when a battery ignites, it can stay on fire for hours or even days, sometimes without showing obvious signs, which can lead to some dangerous situations. But people in the battery industry are not just sitting around doing nothing–innovation is always happening, and the latest discovery from U.S.-based startup 24M might just be one of those breakthroughs that change the industry." Our newest test data shows Impervio™ can stop a battery fire in its tracks. In the test, we compared an NMC cell with and without the Impervio separator. The battery without Impervio started shorting after 15 minutes of overcharging and caught fire after 30. With Impervio, the battery did not overheat and continued to perform reliably over a full hour of overcharge. Read more in EV Engineering: https://lnkd.in/gtZW3t9B
