In new testing conducted at 24M labs, the Impervio™ separator demonstrated dramatic improvements in battery fire safety and preventing internal shorts. When brought to 100% overcapacity (twice the manufacturers specified maximum voltage) for an hour, cells with Impervio remained at full performance with no shorting or overheating. Cells without Impervio caught fire after just half an hour. Read more about our newest Impervio milestone: https://lnkd.in/gQKfD7Uj

24M CEO Naoki Ota and CFO Richard Chleboski sat down with Automotive Electronics, the leading authority on EVs in South Korea, to discuss how Impervio™ can help prevent battery fires and make EVs safer. Read the full article:
Someone said that the world has changed, and now is the time to openly flaunt a safe car and a safe battery. Dendrites are considered the most common cause of lithium-ion battery fires, and this problem is not completely resolved in semi-solid or solid-state batteries either. According to 24M Technologies, their 'Impervio' separator technology can detect and control this issue right at the electrode level from the start. Moreover, this technology can be implemented without significant process adjustments or increased costs. We spoke with Naoki Ota, CEO, and Richard Chleboski, COO of 24M Technologies, about their approach to preventing battery fires and their battery solutions.

24M is excited to announce a new chapter in the 24M story: A 71,000 square foot fully integrated pilot manufacturing facility capable of producing up to 100 MWh of 24M SemiSolid™ battery cells. The new facility, located in Rayong, Thailand and co-developed with longstanding 24M partner and licensee Nuovo+, has already begun pilot production and will deliver initial validation samples this fall. The acquisition of the facility, along with a recent $87 million investment in 24M, will accelerate the commercialization of the 24M suite of battery technologies and bring us closer to our vision of a better energy future. Fear of battery fires is preventing consumers from going all-in on electrification. But even battery innovations like solid-state chemistries aren't enough to prevent fires from breaking out. “Recent research has shown that even solid-state batteries (which some expect to be a solution) cannot fundamentally prevent fires,” said Naoki Ota, President and CEO of 24M. “The fundamental solution is to precisely monitor the positive and negative poles of the battery cell and block the energy flow inside the battery if an abnormality is detected.” 24M Impervio™, a new separator technology from the 24M team, can detect internal shorts before they occur and alert the battery management system of a potential issue — stopping the short in its tracks and preventing a deadly fire. Recent stories of battery fires in South Korea have put a spotlight on the risks associated with EVs and ESS. Prioritizing battery safety is now all the more important to ensure widespread adoption and consumer trust. “Battery fires are not just a Korean issue. There was the fire in Incheon, but there have been fires throughout the world — the United States, China and Europe. Both EVs, which have gotten a lot of attention, but also ESS applications have suffered fires,” said Richard Chleboski, 24M CFO. 24M CEO Naoki Ota and Rich Chleboski met with The Korea Times to discuss how 24M Impervio™ can help prevent the growth of fire-sparking dendrites and detect safety issues before they occur: https://lnkd.in/g_ezCTRS
