U.S. Army and Marine Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians joined together with bomb squad members from other nations to confront and defeat World War II era unexploded ordnance across the Solomon Islands. American Soldiers from the 303rd Ordnance Battalion (EOD) and U.S. Marines from the Marine Rotational Force - Darwin, Australia, served with EOD techs from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force during the 20th iteration of Operation Render Safe. Troops from Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom observed the Australian-led operation designed to rid the islands of the more than 80-year-old explosive hazards. 1st Sgt. Christopher J. Noseworthy, the senior enlisted leader for the Fort Stewart, Georgia-based 51st Chemical Company, broke out his grill and provided hot meals to the Soldiers in the 83rd Chemical Battalion who live in the barracks after Hurricane Helene shut down power. Noseworthy and his wife Katie provided more than 30 hamburgers and 50 hot dogs to the Soldiers who live in the barracks. A native of Phoenix who has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, Noseworthy said he always works to make sure that his deeds match his words. The U.S. military’s premier Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command trained Sept. 16 - 20 with nearly 300 personnel from 52 Federal, state, local and private industry partners during “Exercise Toxic Buckeye” in Ohio and West Virginia. Army civilian employees from the U.S. Army 20th CBRNE Command conducted an accident-response exercise with partners from Battelle, FBI, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, and the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia National Guard during the full-scale Chemical Incident or Mishap Response and Assistance exercise. “Exercise Toxic Buckeye” simulated responses to a trio of emergencies, including a U.S. Army helicopter crash, an airplane crash and an accident involving a ground convoy carrying Schedule 1 chemical surety material. A U.S. Army civilian was recognized for supporting Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians who serve in the U.S. military’s premier Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command. Michael S. Nastari, a U.S. Army civilian who also serves as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, was selected as the 20th CBRNE Command Civilian of the Quarter for April through June 2024 for his service as a Military Human Resources Specialist. Nastari processes civilian clothing allowances for Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians who are required to wear civilian clothes during missions in support of domestic authorities across the nation. U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians trained together with other bomb squad members at the Ontario, California, Airport during Operation All American. Soldiers from the Fort Irwin, California-based 759th Ordnance Company (EOD) trained with the Transportation Security Administration, Ontario Fire Department, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and Riverside Sheriff’s Department during the exercise. Capt. Alexander K. Olson, the commander of the 759th EOD Company, said the EOD training scenarios during Operation All American focused on safely responding to an improvised explosive device discovered on aircraft. Ryan P. Cole was selected as the 20th CBRNE Command Civilian of the Quarter for April through June 2024 for his efforts to strengthen the command. As the program manager, coordinator and senior advisor for the Ready and Resilient (R2) campaign, Cole oversees a wide variety of important programs that support Soldiers, Army civilians and family members on the 19 bases in 16 states where 20th CBRNE Command units are stationed. CBRN troops from Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States trained together at the Suffield Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) site.
