- Empathise and understand people, not just as users of a product or service, but as humans. - Ask ‘Why?’ and understand the context, actors, and forces that can shape that problem. - Try to gauge both the individual and the group levels’ insights to ensure that you focus on the real needs and root causes of the problem and the people you are designing for.

You can start by deeply researching the community to grasp their cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. Identify specific needs and challenges through surveys, interviews, and focus groups. You can also collaborate with community stakeholders to co-create solutions, ensuring cultural sensitivity and relevance. Designers should dedicate a large portion of their time to listening. What you think the audience wants vs what they actually need are often 2 different things. Ignorance often leads to success. When you’re ignorant, you have no biases to influence your work. You have no assumptions and are forced to open up those ears and each design blindly.

Design has the power to change the world. To make it more inclusive, focus on actual individuals rather than stereotypes. Investigate their wants and abilities to ensure that your project is suitable for everyone. Ditch the language and embrace plain graphics; think invites, not puzzles! Consider colorblind people by using contrasting colors and providing alt text for images. Celebrate diversity! The world is a bright blend, therefore incorporate that into your designs.
