How do you keep your focus during presentations?

One thing I learnt was to keep it simple and self explanatory, Never complicate your presentation if you sharing slides make them interesting use bright attention grabbing colors, make sure to structure your presentation, Also never read through your presentation verbatim, engage with your audience crack a joke here and there to keep them awake and interested. Be factual.

You know how the saying goes. By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. Very true in the case of presentations. I think the starting point is always the objective. Based on the objective, create a story. From the story, you create the content to back it up. Finally, you build the presentation around everything. You can have the best and most refined presentation in your sleeve. If you can't pull the trigger (pitch), it's pointless. Here are my two cents: 1. Practice in front of a mirror - it builds awareness and you notice what's going well and what's not 2. Practice timing - the usual culprit when something goes wrong with a presentation 3. Get someone's opinion - you will find new valuable insights from a fresh pair of eyes.

In addition to all this, if you use your own laptop, check early for possible software updates. Wouldn't be the first time I see a presentation stop due to Microsoft updates. If you depend on someone elses equipment make sure you fully test this. How do you easily navigate your presentation and any other tools you might use throughout. If you use remote clicker, check battery level and range. At home, check battery level of your headset.

You know presentations are communication exercises. This means a two way street where you and the audience communicate throughout the presentation. Easier said than done, I know. Start small, with things like: - specific questions addressed to the audience - let your audience know you want something from them - don't wait until the end of the presentation to get your audience involved - why not start with a question, right when you kickoff your speech.
